A driver escaped with minor injuries Friday afternoon after a car struck the rear of a tractor-trailer on the 108 I-40 westbound exit ramp in Morrilton.

The truck’s bumper narrowly missed the car’s driver. Med-Tech EMS transported the driver to St. Vincent Hospital in Morrilton for treatment.

Morrilton firefighters were initially dispatched after a report that the driver was trapped in the vehicle. However, the driver freed himself before crews could begin extrication, and no rescue was required.

The Morrilton Police Department is investigating the crash.

Morrilton firefighters responded to a small grass fire on Highway 113 West near the Entergy electrical substation Tuesday. Crews kept the blaze from spreading, and no structures or electrical equipment were damaged.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Last Thursday, El Dorado Firefighter Jacob Brimer set out on an ultramarathon from the Louisiana line to the Missouri border, raising awareness and funds for Camp Sunshine Arkansas, a camp for pediatric burn survivors.

On Monday, Jacob made a stop at the Morrilton Fire Department. Units from Morrilton, Blackwell, and Med-Tech EMS escorted him through town, and Captain Jo Jo Browing joined him on the run. Assistant Chief Ted Robertson presented a check on behalf of the department.
