Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department The Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, Parsippany-Troy Hills Twp District #1. Fire Dept. Our mission is to protect Life and Property.

The Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, Parsippany - Troy Hills Fire District #1 has been serving the citizens of Parsippany since June 11, 1910. During that time we have seen many changes, from using hand pulled and operated hose carts to the latest fire apparatus with the highest level of technology possible. Some of the services we provide are fire suppression, vehicle and train extrication, basic hazardous materials mitigation response, and Rapid Intervention Crews (RIC) for our neighboring departments. To keep current on our skills we train 3 days per month with extra days as necessary. To gain our certifications we use the Morris County Public Safety Officers Training Academy, Bergen County Fire Academy, as well as private companies that specialize in firefighter training. Our members have earned a wide variety of certifications including:

Firefighter Levels 1 and 2
Haz-Mat Levels 1 and 2
CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Incident Management (ICS & NIMS)
CBRNE/WMD Training
Strategy and Tactics
High Angle Rescue
Forcible Entry Techniques

The Mount Tabor Vol. currently has 49 active firefighters protecting the citizens of Parsippany. The fire department is run by a Chief, 1 Assistant Chief, 3 Captains, and 3 Lieutenants. These officers and the members operate 5 apparatus from 3 fire stations. Our oldest station is located in the Mount Tabor section of Parsippany and has a history dating back to 1910. Our headquarters station is located in the Sedgefield section of town on Route 53, and our newest station is located in the Powdermill section of town just off of Route 10. The fire department is governed by a 5 member Board of Fire Commissioners. This board is elected by the citizens of Fire District 1 at large for 3 year terms. This election occurs with the annual district budget vote which is open to all registered voters in the district. All personnel elected to the board are citizens of the fire district and membership in the department is not required to serve as a Commissioner.

On Friday, October 16, members of the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department had the opportunity to visit the Head Start Center as we continue our Fire Safety Month outreach throughout local schools and community organizations.

Our members spent time talking with the children about fire safety, firefighters, our equipment, and what to do in an emergency. Visits like these are an important part of Fire Safety Month and give us the chance to help build good safety habits at an early age.

We also want to thank everyone at the Head Start Center for having us, especially on a drizzly day, and for the thoughtful artwork made for our members. We truly appreciate the warm welcome and enjoyed spending time with everyone.

We look forward to continuing our school and community visits throughout Fire Safety Month!

A big thank you to the Mount Tabor community for inviting us to be part of the Fall Festival on Saturday, October 17!

We were thrilled to attend, spend time with our neighbors, and bring Tower 11 out for everyone to see up close. Community events like this are always a great opportunity to connect outside of emergency calls, answer questions, and share a little more about the equipment and work that goes into serving our district.

Thank you again for having us. We’re always proud to be part of events that bring our community together!

Over the weekend of September 26–27, the nor’easter kept members of the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department busy with a wide range of calls across the area.

Our volunteers responded to downed power lines, gas leaks, a motor vehicle accident involving a rollover, storm-related hazards, and a second-alarm structure fire in Dover, among other incidents.

Calls like these are a good reminder of how quickly conditions can change during a major storm. While many people were riding out the weather at home, our members were out helping neighbors, assisting other departments, and working alongside our mutual aid partners wherever we were needed.

We are proud of the time and effort our volunteers continue to give to this community, especially during long and demanding weather events.

WHEN ONE OF OUR OWN NEEDS HELP, WE SHOW UP!

Our fire family is rallying around the Donnellys as they navigate an unimaginable challenge. Courtney, the wife of longtime MTVFD member Taylor Donnelly, daughter of a life member of our department, and sister-in-law to one of our department’s officers, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

As they take on this incredibly difficult and unexpected journey, Taylor and Courtney are also preparing to welcome their baby girl in the coming months while raising their one-year-old son, Grayson.

If you know Courtney, you know she is someone who has always put others first. She has a heart for caring for others, showing up for those in need, and advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.

We are selling shirts to support Courtney and her growing family, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Donnellys to help them through this difficult time. Every shirt purchased is a way to show your support, stand beside them, and remind them that they don’t have to face this alone.

ORDER YOUR SHIRT HERE:
https://www.MountTaborFD.com/breastcancer

Whether you purchase a shirt, share this post, or simply help spread the word, every bit of support makes a difference!

We will always show up for our own. Hug your loved ones a little tighter, and let’s show the Donnellys that their fire family and this community have their backs every step of the way.

Call #487 9/27/26 06:44 - During the height of the nor’easter, the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle rollover with entrapment near the Parsippany-Denville border on Route 10 near Pelican Ski.

Crews arrived to find a vehicle on its roof with an occupant trapped inside. The Denville Volunteer Fire Department was already on scene tending to the entrapped driver. Members worked alongside the Denville Fire Department, Par-Troy EMS, Parsippany Police, Denville Police, and Morris County EMS to stabilize the vehicle, gain access, and assist with the clean up.

Calls near municipal borders can bring multiple agencies together quickly, and in this case, that was exactly what was needed. When a car comes to rest on the town line, there’s no such thing as too many hands coming to help.

Thank you to all of the responding agencies for the coordinated effort under difficult weather conditions!

Last month, members had the opportunity to conduct a walkthrough of the new 250-unit senior housing development currently under construction at 1500 Littleton Road, the former GlaxoSmithKline property.

This project has been in the works since 2019, and throughout the planning process, the developers were able to meet the department’s requests to help ensure the property is safe and accessible for emergency vehicles and responding crews.

Walkthroughs like this are extremely valuable for us. They give our members a chance to see the building while it is still under construction, understand the structural elements and layout, and get familiar with important features before the property is occupied.

Members were also able to ask questions and review items such as hydrant locations, fire department connections, sprinkler hookups, access points, and parking arrangements for emergency apparatus.

The more familiar we are with a building before an emergency happens, the better prepared we are to respond safely and efficiently.

Thank you to everyone involved in the project for taking the time to walk us through the site and answer our questions.
