We regret to announce that this year’s Car Show at the Beach has been cancelled. Due to the weather impacting other local car shows, we’ve made the decision to reschedule. We’ll be back next year, with a new date, and a lot more to look forward to. Thanks to all of those who continue to support our great Car Show at the Beach!

The sunshine was bright, but the smiles on the faces of the James Morris School students were even brighter!

Morris Fire Company had a great time welcoming the students for Fire Prevention Day. It was a wonderful day filled with learning, laughter, and loads of fun. Thanks to the students and staff at JMS for making it such a memorable visit!

Time: 00:21
Location: Bantam Lake Rd
Nature: Motor Vehicle Crash

Shortly after midnight on 9/24, Morris Fire Company responded to a report of a truck off the roadway on Route 209.

When crews arrived, they found the vehicle in the marsh on the west side of the road. Bantam Ambulance was also dispatched and treated the vehicle’s single occupant.

To give the recovery crew access to the vehicle, MFC members spent more than two hours removing trees, brush, and sections of guardrail.

Once the vehicle was accessible and the scene was made safe, crews cleared the scene and turned things over to Troop L.

MFC responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Route 109 Friday.

The crash required MFC members to detach a section of the roadside cable guardrail, a system of wooden posts and steel cable, to safely access the vehicle and allow for the recovery operation.

These cable guardrails are increasingly being replaced with modern metal-beam guardrail systems, but they’re still common along our local roads. When an accident involves one, our crews may need to cut or disconnect the cable system as part of the extrication or recovery process.

Thursday night’s drill included both vehicle extrication and car fire tactics — two scenarios that can happen at any moment in our area.

Just over 24 hours later, at approximately 1:00 AM Saturday morning, MFC was toned out for a motor vehicle accident.

It’s a pretty good reminder of why we train. Thursday night we got to cut up a car, work with the tools, get some hands-on experience, and spend time working together as a crew. We have a lot of fun doing it, but there’s a serious reason behind it — when the tones drop at 1:00 AM, we want to be ready to get to work.

And we’re always looking for more people to join us.

You don’t have to be a firefighter when you walk through the door. We’ll teach you. What we need are people who are willing to learn, work as a team, and be there for their neighbors when they need us.

Interested in seeing what it’s all about? Send us a message, or stop by one of our drill nights. We train every Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Morris Fire Company.

Honoring Washington CT Fire Dept 100th Anniversary, Morris Fire Company members joined dozens of fire departments from near and far, parading down Route 47 in celebration of a century of dedicated service.

The evening brought together firefighters, apparatus, and community members to recognize the proud traditions of the fire service and the volunteers who have protected their communities for generations. It was an honor to stand alongside so many departments and help celebrate this remarkable milestone.

Congratulations to Washington Fire Department on 100 years of service, commitment, and community pride. Here’s to the next century of protecting and serving.

This past Thursday provided a great opportunity to test hydrants throughout town while giving our operators valuable time on the pumps.

Regular hydrant testing helps ensure that critical water supplies are available and functioning properly. It also reinforces the importance of knowing where our resources are located. Whether responding to a structure fire in the center of town or a remote incident on a back road, firefighters and apparatus operators benefit from having a strong understanding of hydrant locations, water supply options, and the unique challenges of different areas within our area.
