Football game this weekend at SUNY Morrisville.
The SEVAC standby crew posed for a pic between quarters with Mo the College's mascot.
You might notice that we had more than the usual crew - it was homecoming and Mustang Weekend.

The rest of this week is going to be a scorcher! Stay inside if possible. Please use extreme caution if you must be in the heat. Stay hydrated and cool.

The NWS in Binghamton has issued a Dangerous Heat and Humidity Forecast for Wednesday - Friday this week (July 1 - 3). Heat builds Tuesday, but peaks Wednesday through Friday with 100+ heat index values possible for much of the area. Some heat could linger into Saturday. Extreme heat is a long period (2 to 3 days) of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees.

Protect yourself from Heat & Sun:

✅Know the warning signs. https://www.madisoncounty.ny.gov/1675/Heat-Illness-Sunstroke

If your body gets too hot, you can get sick. If you have signs of heat stroke, seek medical attention immediately. Signs of heat stroke include:
- Extremely high body temperatures.
- Red, hot, and dry skin with no sweat.
- Rapid, strong pulse.
- Dizziness, confusion, and unconsciousness.

✅What to do:
- If possible, stay out of the sun and stay in the air conditioning.
- Avoid strenuous activity and exercise, especially during the sun's peak hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Drink plenty of water.
- NEVER leave children or pets in a car.
- Check on your friends, family, and neighbors, especially the elderly and those with out AC.

If your home does not have air conditioning, consider spending time at a cooling center, such as a local library or pool. Find the nearest cooling center and call before you go to make sure they are open: https://www.madisoncounty.ny.gov/2890/Cooling-Center

Finally chased down our other Morrisville college student volunteer to take a pic to share.

Leigha is also not from Morrisville but still gets up at 3am to help our neighbors.

She's in the area working for the college this summer so she still helps out for a shift or two (or more) during the week.

We said "see you later" this early morning to AJ who is one of our SUNY Morrisville student volunteers.
Our other AJ, the paramedic, and Dan, who was up front driving, sent him off with a 3am emergency call and they were on the rig until just about the end of his shift at 6am!

As a community, we thank you for volunteering and we wish you a safe summer away from Morrisville and SEVAC.

See you in August!

Borrowed photo credit to Franci - thank you.

This past Friday, SEVAC was invited to a luncheon at SUNY Morrisville honoring first responders. During the luncheon, SEVAC was presented with an award for heroism and life saving actions.

In November of 2025, SEVAC responded to a critical situation at SUNY Morrisville in which a person was critically injured. Paramedic Brian Horton and EMT Katie Keyes responded to the call along with Morrisville Fire District and immediately began rendering life-saving care. Under Paramedic Horton's leadership, the crew was able to stabilize the patient on the way to the hospital.

We are extremely proud to have Brian and Katie as a part of our team. A special thanks goes out to EMT Bischoff for getting them there safely.

Funny story and lesson learned:
In EMS you never say the Q word or say that you're bored.

Here's a picture taken last night with two of our three AJs (with Dan in the middle)

We won't say who, but one of these guys said they were bored.
Minutes later, "The AJs" and Leigha (not in this picture) went out to two calls nearly back to back.

Stay warm this weekend everyone!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine “Gigi” Holbert. Gigi and her husband graciously donated the land that SEVAC is currently located on today and also made a sizable donation so that we could purchase our first radio. To this day, a plaque is on the front of our building commemorating their generosity. At our annual banquet in 2022, SEVAC honored Gigi by naming her an Honorary Lifetime Member for her unwavering generosity and support for SEVAC. She will be greatly missed. Our most sincere condolences go out to the Holbert family.

Our very own Dan Akers assisted Santa this evening as they spread holiday cheer throughout the district.

Thanks go out to Todd Szewczyk and Robin Szewczyk Gallup for expertly navigating Santa safely around this snowy evening - but what's Christmas in NY with no snow?

Also thank you to Jess Trainor Morticelli for taking pictures as we made our way around.

One more thank you to of course, the big man himself - Santa!
