Did you know the Morro Bay Police Department offers routine home checks for residents on vacation? Conducted 7 days a week by our dedicated Community Service Officers and trained volunteers (as resources permit), this free service gives you extra peace of mind while you travel.

Enjoy your trip knowing your neighborhood team has your back!

Want to sign up for your next trip? Give the Morro Bay Police Department a call at (805) 772-6225 to get your home on the schedule.

Transcript: I'm Community Service Officer Vasquez, and I'm Community Service Officer Fomine and we're going to show you guys how we do vacation checks.

The Vacation Check program is a community service sponsored by the Morro Bay Police Department and conducted by trained patrol staff, including community service officers and volunteers. We will make residential visits each operating day, seven days a week, as resources permit.

We make a perimeter check, try the doors to see if they're locked, pick up papers, circulars, ET cetera, and place them out of view. If we see any areas of concern, we'll contact the homeowner. And if you would like to sign up for the vacation check program, you can contact the Morro Bay Police Department at (805) 772-6225.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year, MBPD is standing with survivors by moving from awareness to action.

While domestic violence affects individuals of all backgrounds, the impact is widespread and disproportionately affects women. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men in the U.S. experience physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Women are significantly more likely to suffer severe impacts, including physical injury, safety concerns, missed work or school, and the need for police or medical intervention.

You are not alone, and help is available 24/7.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of former Reserve Police Officer Richard Hannibal, who served our department and community faithfully from 2004 to 2012.

Beyond his service in uniform, Richard was a cornerstone of the community, earning the title of Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2012. His dedication left a lasting imprint on our town, as we still hear wonderful stories about his kindness and service to this day.

We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Richard’s family and loved ones during this time.

We had an amazing time at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office’s Family Day!

MBPD officers and professional staff had a blast greeting hundreds of kids, sharing fun and educational materials and giving the little ones a chance to sit on one of our BMW police motorcycles.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello!
