Happy Friday everyone! Today is the final day of tips to get your home ready for cooler weather.
In our final installment we will cover more everyday ways to help save on your gas bills and, yes, your electric bills too.
Meal Prep; you read that correctly, meal prep for your whole week by cooking multiple meals at once. It doesn't matter if your oven and stove are gas or electric, cutting down on the number of times you cook per week will help you save on your utility bills. Added bonus, it will save you time in the kitchen as well.
Use a humidifier: If you use a humidifier, in the areas of your home where you spend the most time, it will make you feel warmer because humid air feels warmer than dry air. With this clever method you can drop the temp on your thermostat another degree or two and probably won't even notice it.
Heat your bed before you get it in: if you use an electric blanket to warm your bed, before you get there, you can reduce your heating expenses. You'll hop into a comfy warm bed without having to crank up the heat, once you're tucked in, turn off the blanket for a good night's rest.
Lastly, HFUD has one more way that could help you lower your monthly bill, if you meet the requirements. If you have been a customer with us for, at least, one year, never have been late on a bill and never been locked off for non-payment then you are eligible to join our budget program. With the budget program your last 12 month's bills are added up then averaged by the month. Every monthly bill may not be exactly the same but they will be relatively similar and, for those of you with high bills in the winter, this can make payments a little more manageable year-round. Call or stop by the office for more information.
We hope you found this week's tips helpful! Remember, a little research and work can go a long way in helping you stay warmer while reducing your heating costs this fall and winter.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend!
