At PPCS, students are CREW not passengers. CREW also stands for courage, respect, empathy, and welcoming. One way of being a crew member is serving on the Quail Council, the school's student leadership board. Each class has two representatives. Today they met to discuss the purpose and role of the Quail Council with this year's new members:
* Provide shared leadership for the school
* Bring ideas and concerns from the student body
* Generate ideas that benefit the whole school
* Form committees to lead and share in tasks
* Make things happen!

MS students have been building relationships with younger grades through buddy reading, reflecting on identity and how to protect it in their First Steps class, and exploring the formation of the earth, its seasons and cycles. On Monday, students created a Moon Observation Journal in their science expedition, which they’ll use for the next month to record careful observations of the moon to explain how (and why) the moon’s phases change over time.

University of Idaho Elementary Art Methods students recently spent a beautiful sunny morning drawing outside with PPCS 4th and 5th graders. The U of I students guided Nature Journaling techniques from The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling by as a way to practice teaching in the overlap of art and science. By spending time looking closely and observing the details of plant life in their own school site, students align with the EL Design Principle of The Natural World by building respectful relationships with nature through awareness and care.

The 4th Grade Crew led Community Circle on Friday with an activity focused on the EL Design Principle of the month: Success and Failure. All K-5 students were tasked with moving quietly and calmly into a VERY BIG circle. Big challenge! Then they all sang Pass the Pumpkin with music teacher Jodi. Afterwards, they reflected on how success and failure showed up in this activity and how it felt when they were able to do it successfully.
