We are just 2 days away from the start of Railfest. Here is a post from Steamtown with all the events planned for the weekend.
PLAN LIKE A RANGER: RAILFEST 2026
September 4-6
We are now two days away from Railfest 2026 at Steamtown National Historic Site. Here are some things to know before you go:
π°οΈ Steamtown NHS is open each day (September 4-6) from 9 am - 5 pm.
π Parking is available on site and additional parking will be available behind the Lackawanna Transit Center on Lackawanna Avenue (look for signs). For driving instructions, search the park address at 350 Cliff Street, Scranton, Pennsylvania.
πΆ Pedestrians to Railfest can enter the park either through the Market Place at Steamtown mall or through a pedestrian gate located between the Market Place at Steamtown parking garage and the Lackawanna Transit Center off of Lackawanna Avenue.
π Several food options will be available to visitors. On site, The Iron Horse Society will be selling snacks and beverages outside the park visitor center. For all three days of the event, a food truck and coffee truck will be located in the parking lot behind the Lackawanna Transit Center, outside the park's pedestrian gate.
π Ongoing in downtown Scranton is the La Festa Italiana food festival. At the top and bottom of each hour, a free shuttle will provide transportation from Steamtown to La Festa and back. Visitors can pick up the shuttle from Steamtown's bus depot, next to the parking lot.
π₯Ύ Steamtown NHS is an active railyard with plenty of uneven walking surfaces, rocks, steel, and concrete. It is encouraged that visitors wear closed toe shoes to protect their feet.
π Four train rides are offered daily, and one ticket is good for both the Nay Aug Limited and the short Caboose Hop rides. Tickets are $6 per person and $1 for children 5 and under. Purchase your tickets ahead at https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/10088803/ticket/10253698, or on site at the Ticket and Information Booth. *Credit/Debit - No Cash*
π· Photo Run By train rides are available Saturday and Sunday and will depart at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. All passengers must purchase a standard ticket to ride the train.
