📚 New Library Hours Begin Today!

After several months of looking at library usage and the times our community uses the library most, our staff and Library Board have decided to try a new schedule for the upcoming winter months.

Beginning today, October 1, the library will be closed on Tuesdays, with those hours shifted to other days throughout the week.

We'd love to hear what you think! A short survey is available at the library where you can tell us how and when you'd most like to use the library. Your feedback will help us as we look at how our hours are working for our community.

Each fall, Iowa public libraries report their usage statistics to the State Library of Iowa. As I work through this year's Annual Survey, I've been pretty excited about the numbers coming in from usage here in our small community - so I thought I'd share a few standouts! 📚

Nearly all of these numbers are higher than last year's! The one exception is adult book checkouts, which I've noticed have been trending downward over the past few years.

Overall, our library's impact is growing, and so is the number of ways our community is using it. ❤️

Swipe through to see a few highlights from FY 2025-26, our most recent fiscal year: July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026.

Note: These program numbers don't include self-led activities like our Pumpkin Decorating Contest and Ugly Sweater Week, or things like reading logs, coloring sheets, and take-home crafts.

It's almost time for the Fall Session of our Infant + Toddler Storytime to begin! 🍂 🌻

This program is led by our library volunteer Kay and spans 6 weeks. Each Thursday morning at 10 am, young library patrons - along with their caregivers and siblings - are welcome to join us for any (or all!) of the 6 sessions. The sessions each include time for 1-2 stories, learning activities, and a craft.

Pre-registration is not required.

🌻 Begins October 1, ends November 5. 10 - 10:45 a.m. 🍂

We've recently added several special new items to our children's collection in memory of Mark Mendick III, a much-loved member of our library family.

Marky's family chose these gifts based on some of his favorite things.

Some are already available for families to enjoy, while others will become part of LEGO Club and our children's room.

These new items are together in a special display near the front of the library, and eventually, they’ll find their permanent places throughout the children’s room and collection.

New items added in Marky's memory:

• Tonies Box & Tonies - audiobooks for children to enjoy here at the library
• Several of Marky's favorite books - including titles that have helped us nearly complete our collection of the Magic Tree House series
• LEGO sets - available for checkout with a library card
• LEGO minifigures - for use at LEGO Club
• LEGO DUPLO - for use in our children's room
• Puzzles - available for checkout

Marky spent many happy hours at the library, and we miss seeing him here. We are deeply grateful to his family for this thoughtful gift and honored that some of the things he loved will continue to bring joy to other children in a place that meant so much to him.

We are honored to remember Marky and to share some of the things he loved with our library community.
