Growing Knowledge, Friendships, and Community at LCSS! Our K-3 Junior Master Gardeners enjoyed a beautiful fall Fun Friday filled with hands-on learning, teamwork, and plenty of smiles!
Students began by exploring the fascinating world of plants, discovering how roots, stems, leaves, and flowers each play an important role in helping plants grow and survive. They learned how sunlight, water, air, and nutrients work together to support plant life before taking their learning beyond the classroom and into our school garden.
With guidance from our wonderful Lawrence County Alabama Master Gardeners volunteers, students put their knowledge into action through fall planting, garden cleanup, and caring for our growing spaces. Along the way, they observed seasonal changes, considered what plants need to thrive, and discovered how even the smallest helping hands can make a difference in the environment around them.
The day also brought opportunities to create beautiful fall bouquets, enjoy a little picnic, and spend time together at McKelvey Park. There was plenty of laughter, and even a few teachers spotted playing alongside their students. Experiences like these bring classroom learning to life while building friendships, encouraging curiosity, and strengthening the connections between our school and the community we call home.
A heartfelt thank-you to our Lawrence County Alabama Master Gardeners Susan Steele, Judy Ramos, and Donna Shanklin for continuing to share their knowledge, time, and love of gardening with our students. At LCSS, we're planting more than seeds. We're growing curious minds, caring hearts, and a love for learning that reaches far beyond the classroom.
P.S. Even our desk geese got in on Fun Friday fun!
