We want to give a very special shoutout to Kimberly at Georgetown Apartments here in Moultrie for going above and beyond for some of our tiniest neighbors.
After a tree company recently performed routine tree maintenance on the property, not one, but TWO different litters of baby squirrels were displaced from their nests.
Kimberly worked with us and put in the time and effort to give these babies what they needed most: the chance to get back to their moms. ❤️
And BOTH reunions were successful! 🥹🐿️
But what impressed us just as much was what Kimberly offered to do afterward. She is looking at changing the timing of Georgetown Apartments’ annual tree maintenance in the future so that it doesn’t fall during peak baby season.
That is HUGE.
Tree maintenance is necessary, but timing it outside of peak baby season whenever possible can prevent nests from being destroyed, babies from being displaced, and families from being separated.
Kimberly didn’t just care about the two litters in front of her. She thought about the squirrels that will call those trees home next year and the year after that. That is what being a good steward of wildlife looks like.
Thank you, Kimberly and the wonderful tree company for being willing to trust the process to reunite these babies with their mother. We hope more property managers, businesses, and homeowners in our community will follow your example.
And somewhere in those trees, two squirrel moms have their babies back where they belong. 🐿️❤️
That’s a win worth celebrating.
