Meet your librarian:
Now that you've learned all about the library board and some of their favorite books and authors I figured you should know a little something about your librarian.
My name is Carla (though most of the people in my life call me Meemaw). I have lived in Mound Valley for over 27 years and been involved with the library off and on for most of those. My Mother was the librarian in the early 2000's and I volunteered a lot then and eventually joined the board. I served on the library board more then once, most recently as the board president and when my term expired I took over as librarian. I love our little town and our little library and hope to encourage others to love it as much as I do.
One of my favorite authors is Patricia Cornwell and her Scarpetta series of books. They follow Kay Scarpetta a medical examiner from Virginia. I like the forensic crime solving aspect of the series and the way Patricia Cornwell delves into the science yet still brings the characters lives to the forefront.

Meet the library board....

The final member of the library board is Marilyn LaRose. Marilyn is also involved with Mound Valley's Aging in Motion (or AIM) group, they do a wonderful dinner once a month at the community center for the 55+ crowd. She also works with New Life Clothing in Altamont and has one of THE most spectacular yards and gardens here in town.

Also as the mayor of Mound Valley, David Templeton also sets on the library board. David says of his favorite book:
"The Changing Wind by Don Coldsmith is a prequel to the
Spanish bit series of books, in his unique way of telling stories, he tries to bring alive the everyday life of the plains Indian using a fictional tribe. The changes that were brought about by contact with European Culture both good and bad. White Buffalo a medicine man of the tribe bares witness to the change as the people move from a society that transports their belongings on foot with the help of dogs and pole drags, winters are scarce on supplies in the moon of hunger to a more prosperous life with the coming of the horse.
He is faced with a quandary, the challenge to his medicine and the tribe's sacred way of life with this new medicine and the many benefits it brings to his people."
Don Coldsmith is one of David's favorite authors and you can find some interesting info on him from the Kansas Historical Society as he was born and raised in this neck of the woods.

Meet your library board:

Hi, my name is Missy Brownewell, I am the Secretary/Treasurer of the library board.
The book I'm currently reading is part of the Death series by J.D. Robb, which is a pen name of Nora Roberts. The series is set in New York in 2058and follows Eve Dallas, a detective who is a lover.
along the way, she finds true love with a multi_billionaire criminal and a family she never thought she"d have.
What I love about this series is that there is always a mystery to solve. The crimes range from murder to historical burglaries, and somehow the stories keep me coming back for more. Mound Valley Library has a few of these books and if you want to start the whole series they can find them all through the inter-library loan.

Meet your library board:

Hi, I'm Jayme, and I'm so excited to be joining the Mound Valley Library Board! Being part of the library board is something I've always wanted to do because reading has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My love of books really started with my mom, who read every single day and passed that love of reading on to me.
My book recommendation is Thr3e by Ted Dekker. I first read it in high-school, and it was the book that introduced me to thrillers and truly go me hooked on reading. I've never really stopped since!
I'm donating my copy to the library in hopes that maybe another young reader will pick it up, get completely sucked into a good book, and start a reading journey of their own!

Meet the library board:

Hi, my name is Tammie Logan, and I'm one of the newest library board members.
One of my earliest fond memories is of my mom taking me to the public library to get books, as well as signing up for the summer reading program—even though we lived five miles out in the country. Reading has remained a lifelong passion for me. Today, I mostly enjoy classics from my school days like The Outsiders and To Kill a Mockingbird or Non-Fiction about gardening and history, Mystery, Science Fiction and Christian Fiction. I'm currently reading The Heiress of Winterwood by Sara Ladd.
I believe it's the Board's responsibility to support our new director and help her achieve her goals for the library so that it's a useful and relevant resource for our community. If you haven't already, please stop in to check out the library and let Carla know what you would like to see in your hometown library. Happy reading!

Meet the board:

Hello, my name is Debra Moses and I am the Mound Valley Library Board President. My husband, kids and I moved to Mound Valley about 3 yrs ago. We enjoy spending time outdoors (when it isn't 1000 degrees) and playing games with friends and family.

I have always been an obsessive fantasy reader and recently I have gotten to share that love with my daughter Timber. We read the Beautiful Creatures series together and it was so fun to hear her thoughts and questions. She enjoyed the love story and the fast paced story telling. Beautiful Creatures tells a meaningful coming of age story that touches on how there is good and bad in all of us, and how the choices we make along the way show us who we are and who will be there for us.

Stop by the library and find your next adventure!

My name is Dusty Brownewell. I have been a member of the library board for only a short time. One of my favorite books is A Case of Mice and Murder, by Sally Smith. It is the story of Ocd lawyer,Gabriel Ward, who battles a legal case regarding a fictional mouse beloved by the children of the nation , while also being forced into the role of detective to protect his home when the Chief Justice is found murdered on his doorstep.
