Mount Carroll District Library Our mission is to serve as a gathering place and a gateway to knowledge, community resource and opportunities for life-long learning.

All programs offered at the Mount Carroll District Library are free! Our History:
In 1907, a group of Mt. Carroll Township citizens, wishing to establish a library, garnered support and secured a building site. The plans were submitted and approved by Andrew Carnegie and a two - story brick building was completed in May of 1908. After the building construction was completed, 1,250 books were cataloged and classified, and the Mt. Carroll Township Public Library opened its doors in August of 1908.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
At Mount Carroll District Library, we believe everyone deserves safety, dignity, and relationships built on respect. Raising awareness starts with understanding abuse—and knowing where to find support.
Domestic violence can include physical or sexual violence, stalking, threats, emotional abuse, and controlling behavior. Abuse is never the survivor’s fault.
A few facts from the CDC:
• More than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men in the United States have experienced physical violence, contact sexual violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.
• 22.5% of women and 13.7% of men have experienced physical violence by an intimate partner.
• Approximately 16 million women and 11 million men reported first experiencing intimate partner violence before age 18.
Help is available—locally and nationally.
📞 Carroll County: Riverview Center
Free, confidential services include crisis support, counseling, and legal and medical advocacy.
• 24/7 domestic violence hotline: 815-244-1320
• Mount Carroll office, during business hours: 815-244-7704
• Website: riverviewcenter.org
📞 National Domestic Violence Hotline
Confidential support available 24/7:
• Call 800-799-SAFE (7233)
• Text START to 88788
• Chat at thehotline.org
Message and data rates may apply.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If someone may be monitoring your phone or internet activity, use a safer device to seek support when possible.
If someone confides in you, listen without judgment, remind them the abuse is not their fault, and respect their decisions. A caring response can begin with: “I believe you. You deserve to feel safe. How can I support you?”
💜 You are not alone. Our community is stronger when we support one another.
