Shout out to our volunteers who spent the weekend endlessly sorting and moving boxes in preparation for Halloween 👻 and Christmas 🎅🏻 Thank you David, Tom, Michael, Fred, Kevin, Skyler and the others for taking some ibuprofen and pushing through the discomfort of heavy lifting 👏 We appreciate you!

As we prepare to host 375 folks at our Halloween Spooktacular 🎃 event and provide stockings and presents to over 800 kids during our Christmas Magic🎄program it requires a lot from our 💯 all volunteer organization 🙏🏼 Please show some love for our volunteer team who put in the time and energy to sort through donations, stock the store floor, clean the building, fundraise, answer the phones and messages, assist youth in need, put on great events, give tours, speak in the community, perform building upkeep and renovations, and ensure kids affected by foster care have everything they need to thrive and feel cared for ❤️

We have hundreds of fun prizes, giveaways and raffle items for kids and teens at our Halloween Spooktacular 🎃 coming up in one week. Every teen 13+ in costume gets a free gift card. We will have freshly grilled food, live entertainment, musical chairs competition, pumpkin painting and carving, spooky games, door prize raffle, donut eating and costume contests, photo backdrops, creepy crafts, giveaways, visit from Detroit Lions mascot Roary, and a trunk or treat 👻

FOSTER FAMILIES: Register today at: macombfostercloset.org/halloween and remember to bring your qualifying foster care paperwork with you on the day of. No regular shopping will be available on the day of the party, but costumes will be available for kids physically present and without them. Attendees are encouraged to be in costume, but not required. Please arrive between 11am and 12pm, event at our facility ends at 2pm, trunk or treat event is within walking distance inside the county parking garage and ends at 3pm.

Many of the foster families we serve are low-income older folks caring for their grandkids or nieces and nephews. Thanks to our partnership with Gleaners we are able to provide fresh milk and produce to accompany the boxed and canned food we have. Everything helps these families, who oftentimes would not be able to take in their relatives without the assistance, keeping the children out of traditional foster care. That’s a good thing because outcomes improve when the kids stay with family and we also unfortunately lack enough licensed foster homes….Helping Kids Begins Here at the Macomb Foster Closet

Today several board members from the Macomb Foster Closet spent the day volunteering with the amazing folks at the Downriver Foster Closet in Wyandotte at their big Halloween event 🎃 Over 300 people gathered for food, costumes, shopping, games, crafts, slime making, balloon animals, photo fun, bounce house, prizes, treats, pumpkins, and more 👻

We work hand in hand with nonprofit partners like the Downriver Foster Closet to care for all kids affected by foster care in Southeast Michigan. They volunteered at our Back To School Fest in August. We’ve been collaborating with them and sharing resources for many years now.

If you know of any downriver area churches, businesses, schools, or organizations looking for an excellent charity to support please refer them to the Downriver Foster Closet. They have recently launched their own forever home campaign to buy a building, and they certainly need more space to serve the volume of kids they do. They are all volunteers, like us, and do great work we can all be proud of 🧡 BE THE VILLAGE!

Thanks to the Elizabeth K. Galeana Foundation for providing lunch and bowling 🎳 fun for youth affected by foster care. This included 17-19 year old teens from a local MCHS independent living facility for those aging out of foster care. We appreciate the Galeana Family’s long-time support of the Macomb Foster Closet’s mission for serving children and young adults in need ❤️ Helping Kids Begins Here!

We delivered 3 beds, mattresses, sheet sets, and pillows to a home in Detroit to help a sibling set of two brothers and their sister who aged out of foster care. Now they all have their own comfortable place to sleep 😴💤 We did this after receiving a call from our good partners at Big Family of Michigan. We love 💕 to collaborate for the kids, always putting them first.
