Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.
Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.
The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Tanker 30 and members participated in a rural water supply drill today as part of a Gaston County Tanker Task Force. These scenarios are critical in areas such as ours that have little to no fire hydrants so that we can effectively supply water for firefighting operations.

Carbon monoxide, also known as CO, is called the โinvisible killerโ because it's a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. It is undetectable to the human senses, so people may not know that they are being exposed.
CO poisoning can occur when a fuel-burning appliance or machine, such as a furnace, heater or generator, is not working or vented properly.
Did you know:
Breathing in CO at high levels can be fatal. More than 150 people in the United States die every year from accidental nonfire-related CO.

Keep these safety tips in mind when it comes to CO:
Install and maintain CO alarms inside your home to provide early warning of CO.
Install CO alarms in a central location outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of your home.
Use portable generators outdoors in well-ventilated areas away from all doors, windows and vents.
Make sure vents for the dryer, furnace, stove and fireplace are clear of snow and other debris.
