Caddo Tribe 4-H Learns About 4-H History!

Today, the Caddo Tribe gathered together to learn about the history of 4-H! This was the first lesson in our three-part 4-H history series.

During the lesson, members learned about the beginnings of 4-H, including the Boys’ Corn Clubs, Girls’ Canning and Gardening Clubs, and the Smith-Lever Act, which helped establish the Cooperative Extension System we know today.

After learning about these important pieces of history, the kids worked together to create a quilt representing the different clubs and events that helped shape 4-H into what it is today.

We love seeing our 4-H members learn about the roots of this amazing organization while working together and getting creative!

Some sparks are worth celebrating. 🔥

A big thank-you to YesWelder for investing in Welding for the Future, a new Montgomery County 4-H program launching this fall!

When Montgomery County Cooperative Extension Service (Arkansas) Agent Gerald Hewitt applied for and received an Arkansas 4-H Impact Grant to start a countywide youth welding program, YesWelder stepped up as a partner. They provided a complete starter shop: a multi-process welder, spool gun, welding cart, rod oven, helmet, jacket, gloves, and 100 pounds of electrodes to get young welders started.

The first practice is Friday, November 6, with sessions every Friday after that. The goals go well beyond the shop floor: building real skills, competing at the Arkansas 4-H State O-Rama Welding Contest, and working toward welding certifications that open doors to careers and college.

It all started with one young man who built a shop table with his grandfather and took home top honors in Ag Mechanics at the county fair. Now, thanks to YesWelder, many more Montgomery County youth will get that same chance to strike an arc and build something they’re proud of.

That’s what Beyond Ready looks like: skills for today and confidence for whatever comes next.

Thank you, YesWelder, for believing in what 4-H youth can build. 💚🍀
