As we head into the Halloween season, MJPD wants to remind everyone of the importance of celebrating responsibly and never getting behind the wheel while impaired.

Halloween is a time for fun, festivities, and spending time with family and friends. We know that for many, these celebrations may involve alcohol, and we want everyone to enjoy the season while making responsible decisions that keep our community safe.

Our officers are always on the lookout for impaired drivers, but we also recognize that holidays and special celebrations can bring an increased risk of impaired driving. As always, MJPD officers will be actively patrolling our roadways, looking for dangerous driving behaviors and taking action to keep impaired drivers off our streets.

Our message is simple: Enjoy the festivities, but plan ahead. If your plans involve drinking, arrange for a designated driver, use a rideshare service, or make other arrangements to get home safely.

We want everyone to have a fun and memorable Halloween season, and more importantly, we want everyone to make it home safely.

Yesterday was a special day for our department as we officially welcomed our newest police officer, Officer Jacob Belcher!

Surrounded by family, fellow officers, and department leadership, Officer Belcher took his Oath of Office, administered by Chief Chandler.

A Mt. Juliet native and Wilson Central High School graduate, Officer Belcher went on to serve our country for 14 years in the U.S. Army, serving as an Army Ranger. Now, he is continuing his commitment to service right here at home, in the community where he grew up and is raising his own family.

There is something especially meaningful about welcoming someone who has already dedicated so much of his life to serving others and has now chosen to protect the community he calls home.

We are proud to welcome Officer Belcher to the MJPD family and look forward to the difference he will make for the people of Mt. Juliet!

This morning, MJPD had the pleasure of spending time with residents at Maristone Assisted Living in Providence, sharing some coffee, donuts, and plenty of good conversation!

Opportunities like these are an important part of building and strengthening the relationships we have with our community. We never want the only time our citizens interact with our officers to be when they need help or when there’s a problem to solve.

Sometimes, the best connections are made by simply sitting down, sharing a cup of coffee, and getting to know one another.

Thank you to the residents and staff at Maristone for welcoming us this morning! We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with the community we proudly serve.

"My son Dawson and I were at the Golden Bear gas station outside Jackson Hills and Officer Hill was getting gas. I got Dawson out of the car to go inside and I told him “look there’s a police car!” and Dawson started smiling and pointing at it saying how cool it was. Then Officer Hill turned on the blue lights, cause he saw us looking. Then we smiled at him and we walked in.

While we were inside, Officer Hill comes up to us and gives Dawson a “community strong, MJPD” bracelet. He said every little boy was once like Dawson and would get so excited for Police cars. He was so nice and made Dawson’s day! Thank you all for what you do!"

Officer Hill wasn't responding to a call or attending a community event. He was just getting gas. But he saw an opportunity to connect with a young member of our community and took it.

To Officer Hill, it may have been a small part of his day. To Dawson, it was something he'll likely remember for a long time.

We're grateful for officers who understand that how we treat people, especially our youngest community members, matters just as much as the work we do every day to keep Mt. Juliet safe.

And to Dawson, keep smiling when you see those blue lights, buddy! We're glad Officer Hill made your day!

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We encourage our community to take a few minutes to safely dispose of any unwanted, unused, or expired medications. Proper disposal helps keep medications out of the wrong hands and protects our homes, families, and community.

Several drop-off locations will be available throughout Wilson County, including TriStar Mt. Juliet ER here in Mt. Juliet.

Those who participate can also receive a FREE medication lock box, while supplies last.

Help us spread the word, clean out those medicine cabinets, and make a simple choice that can make a real difference in keeping our community safe.

Tonight, an alert from our system led officers to a vehicle associated with an individual wanted for a theft that occurred earlier this month.

Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, which, ironically enough, took place in the parking lot of our very own police department!

The driver, a 47-year-old Smyrna woman, had an active warrant from MJPD stemming from a shoplifting incident earlier this month.

While officers were taking the driver into custody, another observant officer recognized the passenger, a 37-year-old Antioch woman, from a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) bulletin issued by the Franklin Police Department. Further investigation revealed that the passenger had two active warrants from Franklin Police related to organized retail crime.

Both women were taken into custody on their outstanding warrants. During the investigation, officers also discovered a large quantity of additional retail merchandise inside the vehicle. The circumstances surrounding those items remain under investigation.

This is another great example of how technology, proactive policing, and strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies work together to keep our community safe. We are especially grateful for our officers who remain vigilant, recognize wanted individuals, and consistently demonstrate the value of proactive police work.
