Congratulations to Nick Wolff, who was honored on Thursday by Friends of White Plains Youth Bureau! Nick, a member of the White Plains Common Council, has a remarkable record of community service. A longtime mentor in the Youth Bureau's Grandpas United program, Nick has also served in leadership roles with numerous local organizations, including the White Plains Rotary Club, White Plains Library Foundation, and El Centro Hispano. He continues to volunteer with RideConnect, driving seniors to and from medical appointments several times a week.

It was an honor to join the celebration and present Nick with a New York State Assembly Citation on behalf of my colleague Assemblywoman Amy R. Paulin and myself, recognizing his extraordinary dedication to the White Plains community. Congratulations, Nick, and thank you for all you do!

Last week, I joined the Protect Our Care “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” bus tour at its stop in Tarrytown. I joined my colleagues, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, State Senator Shelley Mayer, Assemblymember Dana Levenberg, and Assemblyman Patrick J. Carroll, as well as representatives from 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Empire State Voices, and Little Lobbyists. Together, we denounced the destruction caused to our health care system and the vastly worsened health crisis that the Trump administration has wrought.

Health care is not a luxury but a necessity for every New Yorker. The consequences of the federal cuts to Medicaid and the loss of enhanced ACA tax credits will be felt right here in our communities, from patients struggling to afford coverage, to hospitals and health care providers already facing significant pressures. We need to make health care more affordable and accessible, not put coverage further out of reach for working families.

I was pleased to attend the Friends of White Plains Hospital Gala this past weekend. The gala is an important annual fundraiser supporting the hospital and the exceptional care it provides.

This year’s event also highlighted the remarkable recovery of stroke survivor David Wasserman and the collaborative care he received from White Plains Hospital, Burke Rehabilitation and Montefiore Medical Center.

(Here with Dawn French, Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President for Marketing and Community Relations at White Plains Hospital.)

On Sunday, I joined the community at Wampus Brook Park for Armonk’s C***r and Donut Festival, Jamie’s Run for Love, and the Byram Hills Preschool Association - BHPA Fall Carnival. With fresh c***r, Beascakes donuts, and races and activities for children, the day offered plenty of ways to celebrate fall together.

Jamie’s Run for Love honors the memory of Jamie Love, while its partnership with Stayin’ Alive supports Northern Westchester’s first responders. Thank you to the Armonk Chamber of Commerce, BHPA, Stayin’ Alive, and all the volunteers who made this community tradition possible!

Last weekend, I was glad to join the Armonk Fire Department for its 2026 Annual Inspection, an opportunity to recognize the dedicated volunteers who protect Armonk and the surrounding community. The apparatus was spotless and the personnel in their uniforms were impeccably attired.

My thanks to the department’s firefighters and emergency responders for the countless hours they devote to keeping their neighbors safe, and for their outstanding commitment to public service.

On Saturday, I visited the South Salem Fire Department’s Annual Open House. It was great to see so many families there, having fun while also learning more about the Department.

Later that day, I also stopped by the Vista Fire Department’s annual Pizza Night and Open House (and sadly forgot to take photos!). The firehouse was bustling with families enjoying fire truck rides, apparatus tours, fire and EMS demonstrations, live music and a silent auction benefiting the Department.

Congratulations to both the South Salem and Vista Fire Departments who, along with Westchester EMS, received the ‘2026 Firefighter of the Year Award Unit Citation’ from the Westchester County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association for their coordinated response to a June structure fire and Mayday rescue on Elmwood Road in South Salem.

My thanks to all our emergency responders for their outstanding service to our community.

It was great to stop by Mount Kisco’s third annual Hispanic Heritage Festival at Fountain Park on Saturday. The festival was a wonderful celebration of the many Latin American cultures represented in Mount Kisco, with music, dance, food and community organizations all coming together in the heart of the Village. I couldn’t resist the delicious tacos from one of the food vendors.

Saturday was also the town’s third annual Italian American Festival. Kirby Plaza was filled with food, music, rides and plenty of people enjoying a beautiful celebration of Italian-American heritage and the strong Italian-American community that has long been part of Mount Kisco.

I was delighted to attend the ArtsWestchester ArtsAlive awards ceremony last week and to present New York State Assembly Citations recognizing this year’s award recipients from the 93d Assembly District.

Congratulations to OCA WHV for its Asian American Heritage Festival 2026, The Yellow Finch Project for its neurodiverse theater clubs, Shabaya Clark for his work with under-resourced youth on the August Wilson theatrical monologues, and Wayne Everest Tucker for ‘Celebrating 100 Years of Miles Davis.’

These artists and organizations are helping make the arts more accessible, inclusive, and vibrant throughout our communities. It was a pleasure to recognize their accomplishments and the creativity they bring to Westchester.
