As we continue Fire Prevention Week 2026, today’s message is simple: when it comes to charging your devices, saving a few dollars isn’t worth the risk.

Cheap or counterfeit chargers and charging cables may not meet the safety standards of quality, manufacturer approved products. Damaged or poorly made charging equipment can create a serious risk of overheating, electrical shock, or fire.

Today’s Fire Safety Tips:

-Use the charger and cable recommended by the manufacturer.

-Replace damaged, frayed, or cracked charging cords.

-Avoid counterfeit or suspiciously cheap chargers.

-Never charge devices on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces.

-Don’t ignore a charger or device that becomes unusually hot.

That bargain charger isn’t a bargain if it starts a fire.

Fire Prevention Week is here!
October 4–10, communities across the country are coming together to focus on one of the most important parts of fire safety: PREVENTION.

This year, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is challenging us to:

⚡ CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY™ ⚡
🔋 Safe Charging Is a Superpower!

Our homes are filled with rechargeable devices—phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, scooters, toys, and more. The lithium-ion batteries that power these devices store a tremendous amount of energy, and how we charge and use them matters.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, we’ll be sharing important tips to help you and your family recognize the hazards, charge safely, and prevent battery-related fires before they happen.

A few simple reminders:

-Use the charger and cord approved by the manufacturer.

-Unplug devices when they are fully charged.

-Never charge devices on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces.

-If a battery becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, or makes unusual noises—stop using it.

-Keep charging devices away from exits and anything that could burn

Stay safe. Stay informed. And make fire prevention a family habit!

🇺🇸 SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 — 25 YEARS LATER 🇺🇸

This morning, we pause.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation woke to an ordinary morning that would forever change the course of American history.

In New York City, the towers fell and thousands of lives were taken.

At the Pentagon, another attack claimed the lives of those who were serving our nation.

In Pennsylvania, the passengers and crew of Flight 93 fought back, giving their lives to prevent the hijackers from reaching their intended target.

2,977 innocent people never made it home.

They were parents, children, spouses, brothers, sisters, friends, coworkers, firefighters, police officers, military personnel, first responders, and ordinary Americans simply going about their lives.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice running toward danger while others were running away.

We remember the 23 NYPD officers, the 37 Port Authority officers, and the countless other first responders who answered the call.

We remember the 184 lives lost at the Pentagon.

We remember the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93 who refused to surrender.

Twenty-five years have passed, but their names, their stories, their courage, and their sacrifice must never become just a chapter in a history book.

Today, we remember.

Today, we honor.

Today, we pray for the families who have carried their loss for a quarter of a century.

And today, we remember the spirit of a nation that, in the face of unimaginable tragedy, stood together.

🇺🇸 Never Forget.
🇺🇸 Never Forgotten.
🇺🇸 Always Remembered.

25 years later, the memories of that day still carry a weight that words can hardly describe. 25 Years ago tonight, people laid their head on their pillow, some for the last time, not knowing that our lives were about to change forever.

Thousands of innocent lives were lost. Families were changed forever, and countless first responders ran toward unimaginable danger while others were running away.

On this anniversary, we remember every life lost on September 11th, honor the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize the families who continue to carry their loss.

September 11th reminds us why service matters. Why courage matters. Why looking out for your neighbor matters.

Tonight, take a moment to appreciate the people sitting around your dinner table. Call someone you love. Hug your kids a little tighter.

We may never be able to repay those who gave everything that day, but we can remember them. We can honor them.

And we can make sure they are never forgotten.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 Always Remembered. Never Forgotten.

🎒📚 BACK TO SCHOOL📚🎒

It’s hard to believe summer is already coming to an end! As students, teachers, and staff at the Oregon CUSD 220 head back to the classrooms, the members of the Mt. Morris Fire Protection District want to wish everyone a safe, successful, and exciting school year!

A few reminders as we head back to school:

• Slow down and watch carefully for school buses and children.
• Stop when the school bus stop arm and red lights are activated.
• Be extra alert in school zones and residential areas.
• Watch for children walking and riding bicycles to and from school, especially with fog this morning.
• Give yourself a little extra time in the morning, there will be more traffic and pedestrians.

Most importantly, let’s work together to make sure every child makes it to school and back home safely. ❤️

From all of us at the Mt. Morris Fire Protection District, welcome back to school and have a great first day and school year!

Stay safe. Stay alert. Look out for one another.
