On one of our visits to check on our macroinvertebrate leaf traps students wanted to collect and observe various components to the ecosystem we are studying. They were thrilled to collect various items like leaves, mushrooms, fungi, moss, rocks and more. Students looked at them close up with magnifying glasses and sketched detail in their nature journals.
Ask your student what hatched overnight in their bins. It was straight out of a scarey Halloween movie! 🤯

Middle school science made observations to record in their nature journals mid September. They were studying detrivores and their role in an ecosystem. Students loved looking at the communities found under logs that were turned over. It's amazing watching their curiosity out in the woods.

Middle School Science studied water quality for about 7 weeks. They put together leaf traps to collect macroinvertebrates that reside in the tributary of Onion Creek that runs through Odyssey Middle/High School property.
Students made sure the traps didn't wash up on the banks nor downstream by checking on them often, especially after rain or high winds.
The species of macroinvertebrates found help determine the quality of water.
Stay tuned for our findings.
