Volunteer Spotlight: Millie Shaw

For Millie, volunteering has never just been something to fill her time, it’s been a lifelong passion. From serving at a local hospital as a high school student to volunteering across the country, she has spent decades finding ways to give back to others.

After moving to Mount Pleasant to be closer to her grandchildren, Millie and her husband, Billy, began volunteering with Meals on Wheels • Feeding Friends in January 2009. Today, she continues to dedicate her Tuesdays to serving our neighbors, alongside her Monday volunteer shift at God’s Goods.

Millie’s story is a beautiful reminder that the impact of volunteering extends far beyond the work we do. It’s about the connections we make, the lives we touch, and the purpose we find along the way.

“I wouldn’t trade the privilege of being part of this vital organization for anything.” 💚

We are so grateful for Millie and her many years of dedication to our community!

A huge thank you to Daniel Island Rotary for their generous grant to Meals on Wheels • Feeding Friends!

We couldn’t be more grateful for your continued support through the Daniel Island Duck Race each year. This grant will help us provide nutritious meals to the 400+ homebound neighbors we serve who may not otherwise have access to them.

As a 100% community-funded “village,” it’s incredible to see so many people rally behind our mission. We believe everyone deserves a nutritious meal, a friendly visit, and a safety check, regardless of their bank account.

Being homebound can feel isolating, but every delivery is a reminder that our neighbors are not alone and never forgotten. And we can only make that reminder possible because of generous partners like Daniel Island Rotary who continue to show up for the people we serve. đź’š

Volunteer Spotlight: Steve

Retirement opened a whole new chapter for Steve, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels • Feeding Friends quickly became one of the most meaningful parts of it.

What started as a way to stay active and connected has grown into two permanent delivery routes, meaningful friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the life he gets to live.

For Steve, volunteering is about so much more than delivering a meal. It’s about showing up, building connections, and bringing a little light to someone’s day.

His advice to anyone entering retirement? “Volunteering is a wonderful way to ease into it”

Swipe through to get to know Steve and hear how giving back has helped him find purpose, community, and gratitude in his new home. đź’š

🌮 Happy National Taco Day! 🌮

Just because our neighbors are homebound doesn’t mean they shouldn’t celebrate! Our volunteers hit the road today to deliver taco bowls straight to the doorsteps of our recipients.
Because everyone deserves a delicious lunch and a little fiesta! 💚🌮🎉

Thank you to Tom Scruggs and the First United Methodist Church IOP group for constantly supporting Meals on Wheels • Feeding Friends!

Not only do they drive for us every week, but they recently dropped off a wonderful donation of meals from their commercial kitchen. The meals were immediately frozen and are now ready to help us provide nutritious meals to our homebound neighbors when they need them most!

We are so grateful for their continued generosity, dedication, and support. Our community is stronger, and our neighbors are better cared for, because of people like them! đź’š

We love seeing the amazing friendships and connections that form between our volunteers and homebound neighbors! đź’™

This week, Brittany got to deliver a special birthday treat to Ms. LeLe and spend some time visiting with her. Moments like these are about so much more than a meal. They’re about making sure our homebound neighbors know they are cared for, remembered, and celebrated on the important days in their lives. 🥰

We’re so grateful for volunteers like Brittany who go the extra mile to brighten someone’s day! 💕
