Voting for the Village's Halloween Decorating Contest People's Choice Award starts now! Number of likes on the photo = number of votes ("like" the picture to vote for it). Voting closes on October 26 at 10 am.

The Village's Special Events Commission would like to sincerely thank all who participated this year. We received displays of all shapes and sizes from all around Mount Prospect! This speaks to the true purpose of this contest - to spread joy, discover new parts of town, have some fun with neighbors, and welcome fellow community members to be part of the excitement. Make sure to swipe through each photo and look for the captions to read more about the display.

Winners from each category will be announced on October 27; however, the real prize is bringing the community together!

Want to see the displays in person?
- Interactive online map: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/34f00dd02071459fba6d27367ebdeb88
- PDF/Printable map: Once complete, the print map will be posted at mountprospect.org/halloween and at Village Hall.

The Village's fall loose-leaf collection program is one of many helpful services we provide to our residents! Collection started yesterday (and runs through December 4), so here are a few reminders as we begin this year's leaf season:

- Put leaves at the curb, not in the street. Leaves can be piled approximately one foot from the curb.
- Only leaves are allowed; no grass clippings, twigs, branches, or other debris.
- If you use a landscaping company, please notify them of these guidelines.

Why is this important?
Aside from making collection safe and efficient for our Public Works Department, these actions can have much larger effects. Leaves and other debris that end up in the street can clog storm drains, leading to street flooding. They also end up in local waterways, like our streams and rivers, and have an impact on the ecosystem and quality of the water.

Go to www.mountprospect.org/leafcollection for more details, including your street's collection day.

This special entry takes us to Cap's Ice Cream (formerly Capannari's) where we talked with owner Meg Dix about a family legacy almost as rich as the ice cream. Cap's is doing a special sale on their pints this week, so check that out too at capsicecream.com.
