Last night for our Wednesday Night Training, we had the unique opportunity to practice auto extrication skills on real cars. Being able to talk about scenarios in a classroom setting is one thing, but being able to get hands-on and practice skills is invaluable. A huge thank you to Ramshaw’s Towing for donating the cars and setting them up for us.

Today Mt. Shasta Fire along with CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit and Mt. Shasta Ambulance responded to a call for an injured hiker at Panther Meadows. Crews hiked approximately half a mile up the trail and successfully treated the patient’s injuries. The patient was then transported safely down the trail with a stokes basket and transferred to the ambulance for further treatment.
Situations like these serve as a reminder for everyone who enjoys the beautiful trails and scenic hikes to always carry a first aid kit, enough food and water, and to always let someone know where you’re going and when you’re expected back.

September 11th, 2001, began as regular Tuesday morning, but would later become the deadliest attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor. Although a quarter of a century has passed, we continue to remember the lives lost and the bravery shown.
Those of us who were alive on that day remember exactly what we were doing when the towers were hit. Some of us were in the military. Some of us were working our careers. Some of us were in school. And today, there are members of our department that weren't even born yet.
Yet, our commitment and our service remains the same. The same spirit of the fire and police service that emboldened the first responders on that day is the same spirit that drives those services of today. Today we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember their service, their courage, and their families.
25 years, and we will never forget.

Early this morning we responded to a reported vegetation fire in city limits. Thanks to the quick response of Mt Shasta Police Department, CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit, and bystanders, the fire was quickly contained and kept to 20’x20’. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but it is believed that this is the result of an unattended and unsafe campfire from a transient. We would like to remind everyone of the dangers of unsafe campfires and how, especially in these conditions, they can become quickly out of control.

Over the past few months, we've been busy working on fuel reduction on the south end of the city. Thanks to the Wildfire Mitigation Grant provided by CAL FIRE we are able to utilize both heavy equipment and hand tools to help create fuels breaks and reduce fuel loading in city limits, ultimately making our community safer.
