Did you know October is National Bat Appreciation Month? There are native bats right here in Ohio! Take a minute to learn about them. 🦇

This week's we're talking about bats 🦇

Did you know the little brown bat is of Ohio's native bat species? These tiny mammals help to control insect populations and are an important part of Ohio's ecosystems. They are considered endangered in Ohio, due to being heavily impacted by habitat loss and by white-nose syndrome, a disease that affects hibernating bats.

It's Safety Weekend at the Campground. Visitors are encouraged to park in the visitors parking lot next to the campground office.

Stop into the campground office to pick up a commemorative sticker!

Remember to sign up in the campground office to be entered to win a free night of camping. Must be a registered camper to qualify!

Today is a great day to come hike on the Rich VanHorn Trail with the Naturalist from 10:00am-11:00am. The trail is 1 mile that is mostly wooded, has a view of the lake, and it encircles a pond. Park at the Deer Creek Lodge & Conference Center. Make a left turn into the lot, the trailhead is to the right of the courts. See you there! 🥾

Save the date to attend a special ceremony for the late Officer Lagore.

Join us on Friday, October 9, at 10:00 a.m. as we honor the life, service, and lasting legacy of Natural Resources Officer Jason Lagore at the Jason Lagore Memorial Dog Park in Caesar Creek State Park.

This special dedication will bring together Jason’s family, friends, fellow officers, ODNR representatives, Friends of Ohio K9 supporters, project partners, and community members who helped make this memorial possible.

Following the ceremony, guests are invited to explore the memorial plaza and dog park, walk the trails, visit the dog beach, and meet Natural Resources Officers.

We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate a legacy of service that will continue to inspire future generations.
