A portion of eastbound Interstate 64 will close overnight Oct. 22-23 for maintenance, requiring drivers to take a detour through Mount Vernon.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said the closure at U.S. 51 will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. The interstate is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, weather permitting.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted south on U.S. 51 to Illinois 15, then east to Interstate 57/64 in Mount Vernon.

During the same period, the southbound driving lane of I-57 will close just south of the I-57/I-64 merge.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time. IDOT urges motorists to slow down, follow construction signs, and avoid distractions while traveling through the work zone.
