On the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember all who were lost and all who served.
We remember the 2,977 innocent people killed in New York, at the Pentagon, and aboard the four flights — office workers, parents, children, friends, and neighbors who went to work or boarded a plane on an ordinary morning.
We remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who fought back.
We remember every first responder who ran toward danger: the firefighters of the FDNY, the officers of the NYPD and the Port Authority Police, the EMTs, paramedics and dispatchers, and the federal agents and K-9 teams who searched for days and weeks after.
We remember the service members, doctors, nurses, ironworkers, heavy equipment operators, chaplains, and the thousands of volunteers who came from across the country to help at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville.
We remember the survivors who carry the memories, the families who carry the absence, and the children who grew up knowing a parent only through stories.
And we remember the responders and survivors who have suffered and died in the years since from related illnesses.
May we never forget any of them, and may we honor them by how we care for one another...
