๐Ÿ”ฅ Open Burning Reminder โ€“ Know Before You Burn ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Before starting an outdoor fire, take a moment to review Kentucky's open burning laws and seasonal burn bans. These regulations are in place to help prevent wildfires and protect lives and property.

๐Ÿšซ Kentucky Seasonal Burn Bans each year

Kentucky observes two wildfire hazard seasons:
๐Ÿ‚ Fall: October 1 โ€“ December 15
๐ŸŒฑ Spring: February 15 โ€“ April 30

During these periods, outdoor burning is prohibited between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., when the risk of wildfire is greatest. Burning is only permitted after 6:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m., provided there are no additional local burn bans or hazardous weather conditions.

โŒ It is illegal to burn household trash, plastics, tires, treated lumber, roofing materials, and other hazardous waste. Only approved natural vegetation, such as leaves, brush, and tree limbs, should be burned where permitted.

Before burning:
โœ… Check for any local burn bans or restrictions.
โœ… Never burn on dry or windy days.
โœ… Keep a water source and hand tools nearby.
โœ… Never leave a fire unattended.
โœ… Ensure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving.
โœ…๏ธ Keep open burns 150ft away from structures and woodlines.

If possible, contact the non-emergency number,(606)256-2121, to advise them of your burn to prevent misinformation from passerby callers.

If your fire gets out of control, call 911 immediately.

Let's all do our part to prevent wildfires and keep our community safe.
