MVPD welcomes two new members to its Integrated Outreach Services (IOS) Team

This afternoon, Mayor Donovan administered the Oath of Honor for two new members of our IOS Team.

Shaina Flaherty has been a social work intern at MVPD for the last year as she finishes up her MSW from Eastern Washington University. Shaina grew up in King County and completed her bachelor's degree in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Western Washington University. Prior to coming to MVPD, she has worked for Burlington Service Alternatives and has been a guardian ad litem. An interesting fact about Shaina is that she has two cats and three lizards as pets.

Carly Geraci grew up in Michigan and earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Michigan State University. Prior to coming to MVPD, Carly was the Sober Programs Manager for Skagit Friendship House. An interesting fact about Carly is that she did a through hike on the Appalachian Trail (which took 8 months to complete) and self-published a book about her experience on the hike.

Our IOS Team supports the Department's vision and mission by delivering resources and services to people encountering the criminal justice system who are experiencing behavioral and/or substance use disorders, or other personal obstacles preventing them from achieving pro-social goals whereby they may otherwise likely avoid the system. The Outreach Services function provides an alternative to a traditional law enforcement response to what is often a non-criminal social problem.

Welcome Shaina and Carly!

Huge shoutout to the Woodland Park Zoo for giving our Kulshan Creek Community Youth Group an unforgettable adventure on their most recent field trip. The day started bright and early at the Kulshan Neighborhood Station, where 52 excited Kulshan family members and their awesome chaperones (including Ofc. Serrano) kicked off a full day of fun, learning, and wildlife wonder. The weather was perfect, the animals were out, and the smiles were nonstop!

Big thanks to our amazing partners at Skagit Skagit Land Trust and Catholic Community Services of Western Washington for helping bring this experience to life for our Kulshan Creek Families!
