NEWS RELEASE
October 9, 2026
Sheriff Mike Hollinshead

What initially appeared to be a civil dispute involving a moving company has developed into a complex, multi-state investigation involving a suspected moving company fraud scheme.
What began with a victim hiring what they believed to be a legitimate moving company quickly turned into a nightmare involving unexpected charges, missing belongings, and unanswered questions.
Through persistence, investigative work, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies across the country, detectives with the Elmore County Sheriff's Office began uncovering connections that extended far beyond Elmore County and even Idaho.
As investigators continued following leads, they discovered information suggesting that this was not an isolated incident, but potentially part of a much larger operation affecting victims across multiple states.
Most importantly, through coordinated efforts with out-of-state law enforcement partners, investigators were able to locate and recover a victim's personal belongings that had been transported hundreds of miles away.
A reminder to the community:
Before hiring a moving company or any business to transport your personal belongings, take the time to verify who you are doing business with and document all of your belongings.
A company having a professional website, positive reviews, or appearing to be a legitimate business does not always mean it is trustworthy.
We appreciate the assistance and cooperation of our law enforcement partners across the country who have helped move this investigation forward.
This remains an active investigation, and additional details are being withheld to protect its integrity.

HONORING OUR HEROES

When danger called, our deputies didn't hesitate.

We are incredibly proud to announce Sergeant Jaclynn Carratt being awarded with the Purple Heart, Deputy First Class Juan Gomez with the Life Saving Award, Deputy Jonathan Muniz Valor, Corporal Joshua Inman Valor, Deputy Taaron Moore Valor
for their extraordinary actions during the May 26, 2026, wildfire.

Disregarding their own safety, they rushed directly into the line of danger to evacuate residents, protect homes, and ensure our community remained safe. Their quick thinking and bravery under pressure truly represents the very best of our Elmore County Family.

Thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty.

*Mason Carratt also presented Deputy First Class Juan Gomez with his own hand crafted award showing much appreciation for saving his wife, Sgt. Carratt.

Well done sir. It’s a team effort that goes beyond the deputies to include the family that supports their career.

Big smiles and fresh starts - a new school year is here! 🚸

A quick reminder for drivers:
🚨Slow Down: Obey posted speed limits in school zones.
🛑 Stop for School Buses: Flashing red lights and extended stop arms mean stop in both directions.
📱Put the Phone Away: Keep your eyes on the road and watch for young pedestrians near crosswalks and bus stops.

🏠We ask parents/guardians to sit down with their kids for a quick safety talk.
•Remind them about traffic safety, staying with groups, and never talking to strangers.
•Discuss school routes and safe zones.
•Look both ways before crossing the street and use crosswalks.
•Never speak to or accept rides from strangers.
•Memorize their home address and a trusted parent/guardians phone number.
•Locate a trusted adult or deputy if they ever feel unsafe.
•Know how and when to call 911 in an emergency.

Let’s work together to keep our kids safe this year. 🏫✨

SCAM ALERT

The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office has received information regarding a telephone scam involving individuals claiming to be associated with the Elmore County Detention Center. The caller claims a virus or illness is circulating within the jail then tells family members they must pay a bond to have their relative released, or the inmate will be required to remain in quarantine for an additional period of time. The Elmore County Detention Center does not call family members to request or pressure them to bond an inmate out. Do not send money based on an unsolicited telephone call claiming to be from the jail.Scammers may have personal information about an inmate or family member that makes the call appear legitimate. Do not assume a caller is legitimate simply because they know names, local information, or other personal details. If you receive a suspicious call regarding someone incarcerated at the Elmore County Detention Center, hang up and independently contact the Sheriff’s Office using an official published telephone number to verify the information. If you believe you have sent money as a result of this scam, contact law enforcement and your financial institution or payment provider as soon as possible.Elmore County Sheriff's Office

👋 If you see Gregor around Elmore County, be sure to say hello!

We wanted to introduce Gregor Andreas Amelkin, a kind young man who has traveled all the way from Europe to spend his summer here in Elmore County completing an internship with Southwestern Advantage.

As part of his summer internship, Gregor will be going door-to-door throughout our community, meeting residents and gaining some great experience along the way.

We know that an unfamiliar face knocking on your door can sometimes make you wonder who they are and why they’re there. I want our community to know that Gregor has been vetted and is here legitimately as part of his summer internship. He has been nothing but kind, respectful, and professional in his interactions with us.

It takes a lot of courage to travel across the world, spend a summer away from family and friends, and work hard in a community you’ve never called home.

So, if Gregor happens to knock on your door, give him a friendly Elmore County welcome! 😊

Good luck this summer, Gregor! We’re glad to have you in our community and hope you enjoy your time here in Idaho! 🇺🇸🤝🌍

GPS Alert & Safety Reminder: Please follow the physical road signs, NOT your map app! The road is closed at the marked barriers. GPS will often try to route you through closed areas—do not drive past "Road Closed" signs.

Driving past barricades endangers emergency crews and creates unnecessary hazards. Trust the physical signs—turn around and stay safe!
