🚌🚸 COMMUNITY SAFETY PSA: SCHOOL BUS SAFETY! 🚸🚌

🍎📚 October is National School Bus Safety Month! 📚🍎

School is in session, and our students are counting on all of us to help them get to and from school safely! 💛 The Mountain Home Police Department wants to remind drivers, parents, and students of a few important school bus safety rules. Let's work together to keep our kids safe! 👮‍♂️💙❤️

🚗 DRIVERS: KNOW WHEN TO STOP! 🛑

🔴 Three lanes or fewer? When a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends its stop sign, traffic in BOTH directions must stop.

🔴 More than three lanes? Traffic traveling in the opposite direction is generally not required to stop. However, traffic traveling in the SAME direction as the bus MUST stop.

🟡 See flashing yellow lights? Slow down and prepare to stop! Yellow lights, just like traffic lights, is a warning the bus is preparing to stop and its red lights will soon activate.

👀 STAY ALERT AND SLOW DOWN!

🚸 Watch for children near bus stops and along roadways.

🐢 Children are unpredictable! Reduce your speed and be ready to stop. Slower speeds cause for better reaction times. A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference!

⚠️ Never assume a child will see your vehicle or react predictably. Stay focused and keep your eyes on the road!

🎒 PARENTS & STUDENTS: BUS STOP SAFETY MATTERS!

✅ Wait for the bus in a safe place, away from the roadway.
✅ Never run or play in the street.
✅ Listen to and follow the bus driver's instructions.
✅ Before crossing ANY road, look both ways and make sure traffic has stopped. Never assume a driver sees you!

🚶 Remember: Pedestrians should use designated crosswalks and follow traffic signals and crossing instructions. Even in a crosswalk, always make sure approaching traffic has stopped before stepping into the roadway!

💙❤️ A LITTLE CAUTION GOES A LONG WAY! ❤️💙

Our children are our most precious passengers. 🚌 Let's all do our part to make every trip to and from school a safe one!

📢 PLEASE SHARE! Help us spread the word and keep our community's students safe!

🚸🚌💙

25 YEARS LATER. WE STILL REMEMBER.

Twenty-five years have passed, but the courage, sacrifice, and heartbreak of September 11, 2001, will never be forgotten.

The Mountain Home Police Department honors the 2,977 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Flight 93. We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the brave first responders and everyday citizens who ran toward danger, the victims and their families, and the countless Americans who came together in the days that followed.

We remember the families who were forever changed, the heroes who gave everything, and a nation that stood together in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

As first responders, we are humbled to follow in their footsteps. Their courage reminds us why we serve, and their sacrifice is a responsibility we carry with us each day.

25 years ago, our nation witnessed unimaginable loss and extraordinary courage.

25 years later, their stories still matter. Their sacrifice still matters. Their legacy lives on forever in our hearts.

WE REMEMBER. WE HONOR. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

🎒🚔 TODAY IS THE DAY! 🚔🎒

Say hello to Officer Jose Luna — MHPD’s newest School Resource Officer! 👋

It’s officially Officer Luna’s first day of school… and yes, he’s a little nervous too! 😂📚

While he’s no stranger to MHPD, today he gets to take on a brand-new adventure: helping keep our schools safe, getting to know our students and staff, and becoming a familiar, friendly face around campus.

And don’t worry, kids and staff will still be seeing that welcoming smile they know and love from Officer Holloway every day! 😊 School Resource Officers Holloway and Luna will be working together to cover all our schools, so our students will have two familiar faces looking out for them throughout the school year. ❤️💙

It is also Officer Luna’s birthday so, when you see him out and about, say hi and happy birthday! 🥳🎉 Give him a smile, introduce yourself, and help him feel right at home.

And Officer Luna… don’t worry, your first day will be great.😉 Just remember: no running in the hallways, be nice to your classmates, and try not to get sent to the principal’s (or Chief’s) office. 😂

Welcome to the school year, Officer Luna! We’re excited to have you in our schools with Officer Holloway! ❤️💙🚔

Happy First Day! 🍎🎒
