The City of Mountain View plans to celebrate Affordable Housing Month all year long by adding a record number of affordable housing developments and units in 2026. The City’s ongoing commitment to housing was recently demonstrated by this year’s first project, a 120-unit, 100% affordable development called Corso.

On May 27, the City joined representatives from Related California, Alta Housing, the State of California, the County of Santa Clara, the Housing Authority of Santa Clara County, and other partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Corso. The 5-story, signature residential development is transit-oriented, located in Downtown across from the Mountain View Public Library, and will feature local public art. The City contributed $23.5 million and donated the land, which was a City-owned parking lot, for this affordable housing project.

This week, the City of Mountain View celebrated the graduation of 18 residents who completed the Chinese Language Civic Leadership Academy. This is the third time that the City has offered this civic leadership academy, which is offered in English and Chinese.

The program is designed to enhance participants' understanding of local government and City services as well as encourage civic engagement, leadership, and volunteerism in the community.

The City’s Academy program was launched in 2017 with the Spanish Language Civic Leadership Academy. The initiative reflects the City Council's commitment to building a “Community for All.” To date, over 200 bilingual residents have successfully completed the program.

The City of Mountain View celebrated National Public Works Week with a display of tools and equipment at Mountain View City Hall, a Public Works-themed storytime at the Mountain View Public Library that attracted over 200 attendees, and an open house at the Municipal Operations Center that was attended by almost 300 people.

All of this highlighted the incredible work Public Works employees do day in and day out, year-round. This includes maintaining City streets, sidewalks, parks, and sewers; managing water resources; and supporting sustainability efforts; among many other things.

The City thanks its Public Works employees for the important services they provide for our community!

On May 27, the City of Mountain View joined representatives from Related California, Alta Housing, the State of California, the County of Santa Clara, the Housing Authority of Santa Clara County, and other partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Corso, a 120-unit affordable housing development in Downtown Mountain View.

When completed in early 2028, Corso will transform a 1.56-acre, City-owned parking lot into a five-story residential development featuring studios to three-bedroom apartments for households and families earning between 30% to 60% AMI. Twenty units will be set aside for households transitioning out of homelessness, 10 will be designated for permanent supportive housing, and 15 apartments will be for households with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This signature development will also include local public art and be the first fully affordable housing development to incorporate this feature.

Thank you to everyone who attended the City of Mountain View's second annual State of the City Address! Over 150 community members enjoyed the free civic event, which was held on Tuesday, May 19, at the Mountain View Community Center.

At the 2026 State of the City, the Mayor provided highlights of how the City is working in tandem with the community to improve the quality of Mountain View’s streets and roads, develop more affordable housing, build a more sustainable environment, grow the local economy, and be a “Community for All.” The event also provided opportunities for residents to get more civically engaged through volunteering.

The State of the City was streamed live and is currently available to view on the City’s YouTube channel, YouTube.com/MountainViewGov. In addition, it will be broadcast at a later date on Mountain View City Television, Comcast cable channel 28, and AT&T U-verse, channel 99.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 19, the City of Mountain View, in coordination with the California State Water Resources Control Board, lifted the “Boil Water” notice for the remaining 21 homes impacted by a water main contamination breach, north of Cuesta Park.

The water line serving these homes has tested clear of coliform bacteria in two consecutive sampling events, as required by the State Water Board. Households are advised to flush their household plumbing, following instructions included in the “Termination of Boil Water Notice.”

The City is providing plumbing services for those who need assistance with the flushing process. If you need assistance, please email [email protected] or call 650-903-6081.

Earlier this month, on May 6, a “Boil Water” notice was lifted for 46 of the original 67 homes impacted by the Cuesta water main breach.

Bottled water delivery for these 21 homes will continue through Wednesday, May 27, with extra days provided to ensure a smooth household transition. If residents are ready to discontinue water delivery sooner, they should call Water World at 408-641-5440 to cancel the service before placing all empty bottles out for pickup. If residents place bottles out without canceling, Water World will continue to exchange empty for new bottles until Wednesday, May 27.

The City will continue to provide temporary lodging, meals and incidentals per diem payments, and shower resources for the affected households in these 21 homes through Wednesday, May 20 (hotel checkout available through Thursday, May 21).

On Friday, May 22, the City will issue the final check for affected residents’ per diem payments for meals and incidentals. These checks will be available for pickup at the Finance and Administrative Services Department, 2nd floor, at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St.

The 21 households have been reconnected to the water main. Starting tomorrow, temporary above-ground pipelines will be removed, followed by the restoration of roadways and sidewalks.
