Meet the mythical creatures, legendary beasts, and terrifying monsters that have populated Asian art for centuries at a program presented by the Asian Art Museum on Wednesday, October 28. Appearing throughout folklore, stories, songs, and works of art, these supernatural, mystical, and often godlike (or demonic) beings have fascinated audiences since ancient times.

Join Omid Jahan, founder of the Afghan Cassette Archive, for a multimedia listening session exploring Afghanistan’s rich musical history through rare cassette recordings, archival materials, and personal stories on Sunday, October 25. The program will highlight Afghan music from different eras and communities, including recordings preserved from Afghanistan and the Afghan diaspora.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear selections from the archive, learn about the stories behind the music and artists, and view original cassette tapes and other archival materials. The session offers a unique look at Afghan history, culture, migration, and memory through the music that has traveled across generations.

Step into the world of a mysterious mansion where one fateful evening takes a deadly turn on Thursday, October 22. You will be given a character to play, complete with secrets, suspicions, and motives of your own. As the story unfolds, clues will be revealed, and everyone becomes a suspect.

Work with your fellow guests to uncover hidden secrets, piece together the evidence, and determine who committed the murder before the mystery is solved. Will you crack the case, or will the murderer get away with it?

This event is for teens in grades 9-12. No acting experience is necessary—just bring your imagination and detective skills!

We learned about fire safety at the Outdoor Storytime last week in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. After listening to stories, rhymes, and songs, Fire Inspectors Gena and Sparky joined us to share their own story and teach us about ways we can prevent fires from starting. We were also excited to get up close to a real fire truck and ask the friendly firefighters all our questions.

Thank you to our friends at City of Mountain View - Fire Department for coming and teaching us how to stay safe around fires!
