Today was a fun "meet & greet" hosted by three supporters who are employees at Google. It was a good chance to talk with younger people about the housing shortage in Mountain View.

Pictured is Geoffrey- Greg's son, who is a member of the Shasta County Volunteer Fire Department- Company #70-Big Bend. He is shown fighting a forest fire near Beiber, CA, which is northeast of Redding. This was a relatively small fire that the crew was able to extinguish in one day. Fires similar to this one have occurred all summer long in Northern California, most with little publicity.

This morning we rode our bikes to the 10th annual Mountain View Firefighters Pancake Breakfast. It was a great morning with many families attending. There were demonstrations of rappelling down the side of a building and how to use a fire hose.
Greg is shown in front of a medium sized firetruck showing off the clean Detroit Diesel brand engine. He grew up less than a mile from the plant where these engines were assembled.

We took a day off from the campaign to attend the Army-Stanford tailgate party & football game. About 500 people attended the pregame festivities- including the cheering squad and members of the band. Greg is photographed with Lt. Gen. Robert L.Caslen, the Superintendent of West Point. He thanked Greg for his participation in the 50 Year Affiliation Program and Marchback.

The recent Art & Wine Festival in Mountain View was a fun way to get the chance to talk to voters and supporters. We had four of our neighbors helping in the booth (thanks to Katja, Anne, Susan and Art).

Walking in neighborhoods and meeting people has been a key element of Greg's campaign. This has given him a chance to meet homeowners and renters and to better understand their concerns & their difficulties. People have expressed their pride in Mountain View and their enjoyment in living here.

Greg participated in the annual "Marchback" with the "Old Grad" designation. Every August the new incoming cadets march 14 miles from Camp Buckner to the Main Post to start the academic year. Over 70 classmates marched together as the 50 Year Affiliation Program members. Greg successfully completed the 14 mile route, as did most of his classmates.

Greg participated in the recent Marchback at West Point. The class of 1968 is working with the incoming 2018 class in the 50 year affiliation program, which aims to connect incoming cadets with "old grads". Greg is shown with two new cadets. The one on the right was presented his Certificate of Acceptance in Fresno (and was shown in an earlier photo). On the left is a new cadet from central California (his mother has been keeping us updated on her son's progress).

As a member of the board of directors for Friends of Stevens Creek Trail, Greg (with help from his wife Pamela) informed people about the trail at the recent Los Altos Art & Wine Festival. The group was giving away bike bells and trail maps. Check out the website- http://www.stevenscreektrail.org.

Greg is shown riding the "bike blender" at the VERBS booth at Thursday Night Live in downtown Mountain View. The bike demonstrates how much energy can be created by riding a bike- enough to chop ice for a smoothie. It is surprising how quickly the ice is chopped.
The City of Mountain View was awarded a $500,000 Vehicle Emissions Reductions Based at Schools (VERBS) grant in 2011 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions around schools and encourage bicycling and walking to schools through age-appropriate educational programs for Grades K-12. All public and private schools in the City are currently participating in the program.
