🚸 First Day of School Safety Reminder 🚸

As our kids head back to school tomorrow, please remember to drive carefully and SLOWLY throughout town. Give yourself extra travel time and exercise extreme caution. Watch for children crossing the street, obey crossing guards (always walk bikes across intersections), and NEVER pass a stopped school bus. Parents, once again it is illegal for children under the age of 15 to operate Ebikes/Escooters and there should be no K-8 children commuting to school on these machines.

Let’s work together to keep our students and families safe this school year.

📚 Wishing everyone a safe and successful first day of school!

Our Youth Academy is in full swing! On day one he recruits received instruction from members of the Union County Prosecutor's Office including a live drone demonstration and a visit from the Union County SWAT Team. On day two we visited with the Mountainside Rescue Squad and the Mountainside Fire Department where we had a hands-on experience with various first aid demonstrations and firefighting techniques. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the wet down at the end of the fire fighting demonstration!

The NJMVC is now accepting appointments for licensing and registration of Ebikes/Escooters. Please visit the attached link for helpful information. Once again, it is illegal and dangerous for anyone under the age of 15 to operate one of these machines regardless of license and registration, and we look forward to the cooperation of parents to help keep your kids safe. We hope everyone is enjoying the summer thus far, and please be on the lookout for pedestrians and bicyclists alike.

Ebikes and EScooters are ILLEGAL for children under the age of 15. We have seen the tragedy in various jurisdictions that arises from young people operating these machines.
If the child is 15 or older, they must have a valid license to operate an ebike/escooter, and the bike or scooter must be properly registered and insured.
Parents, please have safety discussions with your children to ensure they are operating their non-ebikes or scooters in a safe and courteous manner and please make sure your children are wearing helmets at all times. Similarly, we encourage all motorists to always be on the lookout for bicyclists and pedestrians alike while driving.
