Welcome to Episode 10 of the Protecting Our Community Podcast. I’m your host, Sgt. Tony Bittinger, with the Mukilteo Police Department.

In our last episode, we sat down with Tiffany Krusey, our Domestic Violence Coordinator here at Mukilteo PD. Tiffany gave us some great insight into the work she does to help victims of domestic violence and their families navigate what can often be a complicated and difficult criminal justice system.

Today, we’re joined by Yelena Stock, a prosecutor who works with the Mukilteo Police Department. Yelena brings a unique perspective to the conversation. She’s a Navy veteran, a wife, a mom, and a Latina who has built an impressive career in the legal field—from being a brand-new prosecutor to eventually becoming a co-owner of a law firm.

Yelena also opens up about her experience spending time exclusively prosecuting Domestic Violence cases and the personal toll that work took on her. With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, her story connects naturally with our conversation from Episode 9 and gives us another perspective on an issue that impacts so many people in our communities.

This is an open, honest, and at times very personal conversation, and I really appreciate Yelena being willing to share her experiences with us.

I hope you enjoy the episode, and as always, thank you for joining us on the Protecting Our Community Podcast.

We were honored to join Columbia Elementary School once again for Walktober Wednesday! Even with the foggy morning, it was great to spend time with students and staff, enjoy some good conversations, and get the day started together. We were also excited to see Webbly from our Everett AquaSox join in on the fun!

As the foggy mornings continue, remember to slow down, limit distractions, and keep your eyes on the road. Watch for students and pedestrians, especially near schools and crosswalks.

Thanks to Columbia Elementary for having us out. We always enjoy being part of our community!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic violence can happen in any community, and behind every call is a person who deserves to feel safe and supported. This month, we want to highlight the realities of domestic violence and reaffirm our commitment to taking these cases seriously.

Yesterday, on October 14, Mukilteo officers investigated a reported domestic violence assault after a victim called to report being assaulted by their boyfriend, who had left the scene. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause for two domestic violence assault charges related to separate incidents.

Several hours later, the suspect returned to the area, and officers located him near the 11700 block of Mukilteo Speedway. He was arrested and, while being searched, assaulted two officers. Neither officer was injured.

The suspect was booked for Assault 4th Degree DV, Assault 2nd Degree DV, two counts of Assault 3rd Degree (assault of a Law Enforcement Officer), and a felony parole violation.

While this incident highlights the importance of our officers' response, domestic violence cases involve much more than an arrest. Supporting victims, helping them navigate difficult circumstances, and connecting them with resources are all critical parts of this work.

We are especially proud of our Domestic Violence Victims Coordinator, whose work helps ensure victims have support and guidance when they need it most. We are also wearing our purple badges throughout October to show our support for domestic violence awareness and for those affected by it.

To anyone experiencing domestic violence: You are not alone. Help is available, and you deserve to feel safe.

The Mukilteo Police Department stands with victims and remains committed to protecting our community, supporting survivors, and holding offenders accountable.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Mukilteo Police Department is once again asking our community to help Cram the Cruiser!

This is our third year partnering with Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County to collect essential items for domestic violence survivors and their children.

Throughout October, a patrol car will be parked outside the Mukilteo Police Department where you can drop off donations. Some of the highest-priority needs include:

• Diapers and pull-ups, especially Size 5 and larger
• New towels and linens
• Underwear and socks
• Full-size personal hygiene products
• Laundry detergent
• Moving bags and duffle bags

Donations can be dropped off at 10500 47th Pl W Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

For the complete wish list, visit the Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County website.

We’ll also be holding a donation collection event at QFC later this month. We’ll share the date and time soon, so keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram.

You may also notice some of our officers wearing purple badges throughout October. The purple badge is another way for our officers to show support for survivors and raise awareness about domestic violence.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared information, or supported these organizations. Your support helps provide important resources to local families as they work toward a safer future.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In 1989, Domestic Violence Awareness Month was officially recognized nationwide as an opportunity to raise awareness, support survivors, and bring communities together to address domestic violence.

We’re proud to partner with organizations throughout our area that support victims of domestic violence. We also have a Domestic Violence Victims Coordinator working out of our building who helps victims navigate the next steps following a domestic violence incident.

This month, we’re also hosting a Cram the Cruiser drive to fill a patrol vehicle with much-needed resources for a local domestic violence shelter. A patrol car will be parked in front of the PD throughout October, and donations can be dropped off in our lobby during normal business hours, Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

If you’re coming to Public Safety Day on Saturday, October 3, you can also bring a donation and help us fill the cruiser!

We may also be out at local grocery stores later this month collecting donations, so keep an eye out for us!
