October is National School Principals Month! 🍏

At the Mukwonago Area School District, our principals, assistant principals, and deans of students play an important role in creating schools where every student feels welcomed, valued, supported, and ready to learn.

We asked our school leaders:

πŸ’™ What is one thing you hope every student feels when they walk through your school doors?

Here’s what our new dean of students had to say:

🏫 Joshua Barnett, Dean of Students - Park View Middle School:

β€œAs the Dean of Students at Park View Middle School, I want every student to know they belong, they matter, and they are capable of more than they may realize. As a school community, we strive for ALL Mustangs to become lifelong learners who are engaged in their learning and understand that what they are learning is meaningful and important to their future."

These reflections capture the heart of what our school leaders strive to create each day: schools where students know they belong, believe in themselves, and have the support they need to reach their full potential. 🫢

Thank you Mr. Barnett for the leadership, care, and dedication you give to our students and staff every day! πŸ‘

🌎 Our MHS Global Scholars program took 18 students to the Hmong American Peace Academy to learn about a Milwaukee Charter School and how they emphasize Hmong culture & language in their everyday classrooms.

Students loved their interactions with the HAPA student hosts, and learning about Hmong Culture. Highlights of the school included student interactions, cultural museum, Hmong language and viewing "paj ntaub" story blankets that tell stories of events in Hmong history. The blankets they viewed showed the story of the large migration of Hmong refugees fleeing SE Asia to the US.

Drawing I students had the choice to create a comic or illustrate a word or phrase, focusing on how lines and shapes bring their ideas to life. They could work on paper using a variety of art materials or create digitally using Procreate on an iPad. βœοΈπŸ“±

🎨 Painting I students recently explored the art of ink, beginning with traditional sumi ink brushwork before creating unique pieces of their own. Using the materials and techniques they practiced, students had the opportunity to experiment, express their creativity, and make each work their own. πŸ–ŒοΈ

Here’s what a couple of our principals had to say:

🏫 Debra Paradowski, Associate Principal at Mukwonago High School:

β€œI want every student who walks through our doors to feel a strong sense of pride and belonging. I want them to know they are an important part of MHS, that their voice matters, and that they have something to contribute. I want students to grow, laugh, take risks, make mistakes, and face challenges as opportunities, knowing there are adults who genuinely care about them. Most importantly, I want every Mukwonago student to leave our doors knowing they made a difference and that MHS is a better place because they were here. ”

🏫 Holly Bodish, Associate Principal at Mukwonago High School:

β€œI want every student who walks through the doors of MHS to feel ready for what lies ahead. I want them to feel welcomed, encouraged, and supported, while developing a strong sense of purpose and belonging. I want every student to feel connected to the MHS community and proud to be part of such a great school filled with amazing students and staff. Most importantly, I want students to care about their learning, take pride in who they are, and understand the important role they play in making MHS a positive and welcoming place for everyone. ”

These reflections capture the heart of what our school leaders strive to create each day: schools where students know they belong, believe in themselves, and have the support they need to reach their full potential. 🫢

Thank you Mrs. Paradowski and Mrs. Bodish for the leadership, care, and dedication you give to our students and staff every day! πŸ‘
