Mantua Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Minor

Woodbury, NJ – Michael Brown, 46, of Mantua, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison today by the Honorable Michael Silvanio for aggravated s*xual assault of a minor, pursuant to a plea agreement, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court:
Brown admitted to having in*******se with a victim between the ages of 13 and 16 on multiple occasions at his Mantua home. He stated that he had supervisory power over the victim at the time of these assaults, as the victim was staying overnight at the home and that it was his legal duty to take care of them.

Brown pled guilty in June to one count of first-degree aggravated s*xual assault of a minor. He was sentenced today to 10 years in state prison, of which he must serve 85% before becoming eligible for parole. Upon release he will be subject to lifetime parole supervision, must register as a s*x offender under Megan’s Law, must have no contact with the victim, and will be barred from any involvement in youth sports.

Brown’s wife, Valerie Brown, was a coach and organization president for the Harrison Sparks cheerleading squad and the victim was a member of the team. Valerie Brown’s charges of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and criminal s*xual contact are still pending.

The State is represented by Assistant Prosecutor Kylie Finley.

Prosecutor Johns also thanked the Mantua Township Police Department and the GCPO High Tech Crimes Unit for their assistance in the investigation that led to today’s outcome.

Defense Counsel: Ken Aita, Esq.

The charges pending against Valerie Brown are merely accusations. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
