Statement Regarding the Death Investigation of Toni Mason

The Mullins Police Department is aware of recent public statements and concerns regarding the death of Toni Mason. We understand that the loss of a loved one is extremely difficult and that family members and members of the community may have questions regarding the circumstances surrounding a death.

From the beginning, the Mullins Police Department treated this matter seriously and conducted an investigation based upon the evidence available to investigators. As part of that investigation, information and evidence were documented and reviewed, and the appropriate outside agencies and medical professionals were involved in determining the cause and manner of death.

The Mullins Police Department has now received and reviewed the findings of the postmortem examination. Those findings do not indicate that Ms. Mason sustained physical trauma consistent with an assault or other physical act causing her death.

Out of respect for the privacy of Ms. Mason and her family, the Mullins Police Department will not publicly release or discuss specific medical findings, toxicology information, photographs, or other sensitive details contained within the postmortem examination.

We recognize that statements and allegations have been made publicly suggesting that Ms. Mason was murdered. The Mullins Police Department must base its statements and investigative conclusions on evidence—not rumors, speculation, social media commentary, or public pressure.

At this time, the evidence and findings available to the Mullins Police Department do not support the allegation that Ms. Mason's death resulted from a physical assault or other physical trauma.

The Department respects the right of family members, citizens, and elected officials to ask questions and express concerns. However, the Mullins Police Department also has a responsibility to ensure that information concerning an investigation is accurate and supported by evidence.

Our officers and investigators will continue to conduct investigations professionally, objectively, and without regard to public criticism or speculation. When evidence supports criminal charges, appropriate action will be taken. When the evidence does not support an allegation, the Department has an equal responsibility not to characterize a death as a homicide without supporting evidence.

The Mullins Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Mason. We ask that the community respect the investigative process and understand that certain information cannot and should not be publicly released.

You don’t have to be Mr. Incredible to help—just show up with candy and try not to eat it all before the children arrive! Bring enough treats to send Buzz Lightyear “to infinity and beyond,” because these little superheroes, princesses, monsters, and dinosaurs take their candy very seriously. 🚀🍭

Decorate your space, wear a fun costume, promote your business or organization, and enjoy a great evening with the community. Just don’t leave Mike Wazowski watching the candy table alone—he only has one eye, and things could get spooky! 👁️👻

We need groups to set up candy stations, decorate booths and help turn Downtown Mullins into a Halloween experience our children will remember!

Don’t own a business? That’s okay!

Don’t belong to an organization? Still okay!

Don’t have a costume? We’ll try not to judge! 😂

You can still volunteer to help with setup, cleanup, welcoming families and keeping everything running smoothly. Candy does not hand itself out—and if it does, that creates an entirely different police report! 👻🚔
