☀️ EXTREME HEAT SAFETY – HART COUNTY ☀️
Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially when high temperatures combine with high humidity. Please take precautions to protect yourself, your family, neighbors, and pets.
STAY HYDRATED
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine during extreme heat.
STAY COOL
Spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned or cooler locations. Use fans, take cool showers, and avoid unnecessary time outdoors during the hottest part of the day.
DRESS FOR THE HEAT
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and a hat if you must be outside.
LIMIT OUTDOOR ACTIVITY
If you have outdoor work or activities, try to schedule them during the cooler morning or evening hours. Take frequent breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned area.
CHECK ON OTHERS
Check on elderly family members, young children, neighbors who may live alone, and anyone who may be especially vulnerable to the heat. Don't forget your pets — make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade.
NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS IN A PARKED VEHICLE
Temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerously hot very quickly.
KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS
Heat exhaustion can include heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache, weakness, and cool or clammy skin. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can include confusion, severe symptoms, or loss of consciousness.
If you believe someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler location while help is on the way.
Stay safe. Stay cool. Look out for one another, Hart County!
