After much deliberation about the situation of waste tires inside our county, Pike County WILL continue to take waste tires free of charge from our in-county residents. However, we will NOT accept tires from DF&A tire permit holders. Businesses that have a DF&A permit will have the right from the state to charge whatever they deem necessary to cover their expenses at the District 3 tire collection site located at the Upper Southwest Regional Landfill, located in Howard county. Tires taken to the Pike County landfill will not be accepted if the tire is mounted on a metal rim. Tires that are accepted at the county landfill are passenger vehicle tires and big truck tires. Tires that will not be accepted will be extra large tires such as large tractor tires or larger. Anyone disposing of tires at Pike County Landfill will be required to show proof of residency from inside the county.

This has not been an easy decision to exclude the the in-county tire shops from dumping at our county landfill, but when the state mandates a price increase on waste tire disposal, it forces us at the local level to make smart financial decisions, but maybe not popular with some groups. It’s my job to make the best decisions for the tax payers of Pike County, and that’s what I will continue to do.

Please remember any time I make decision that you may not understand or agree with, feel free to reach out to me to discuss the matter.

Everyone be careful!! We have a new storm moving across the county with high rainfall amounts! Do not cross roads that are flooded. If you can’t see the roadbed then stop and turn around, you could be driving into a wash out.

Today Pike County received a check for $20,000.00 to help pay for the improvements we need for security concerns in our courthouse. Approximately 2 months ago a gentleman from the state Court Security Commission, had a walk through with me in our courthouse, to advise me on what we needed improvements on. We ranked high enough to receive help from them, and I’ll be applying again next year for this grant.

I’m going to give an explanation on this since some wrong information has been assumed already.

Three weeks ago the Southwest Arkansas Tire District (District 3), which is a group of counties located in the southwest corner of the state, that is basically headquartered at the Upper Southwest Regional Solid Waste Management District in Howard County. They contacted me and the other counties involved, and informed us that as of July 1, 2026, they would start charging everyone that collects tires for them. Since we cannot collect or handle money at our landfill, we cannot accept tires.

Now for the cause of this, the state is reducing the amount of money given to the Tire District 3 to dispose of the tires. Disposing of anything, let alone tires, cost money. This a trickle down effect from the state where the problem originated from. Not the Upper Southwest Regional, or the counties fault. If you want a better explanation for why this is happening you need to contact your state representatives, or the governors office.

The prices are as follows; .75 cents per passenger vehicle tires, 2$ per big truck tires, and extra large tires you have to call for prices. The number to call is 870-845-2866. If you do have any questions I’d be glad to answer them. Thank you and God bless.

I would like to give the Pike county road crew some props! Pike county won this award for the best chip and seal road in the state for 2025! They worked hard for this award by setting up the Head and Strawberry roads, and doing it the right way! This goes to show that given the right equipment, and enough money in the budget, we can be as good as anyone in the state! This award proves we have the right process in rebuilding these roads, and we will continue rebuilding all of our roads the correct way.
