The weather is heating up and we are seeing more golf carts on our streets. We would like to take a minute to familiarize our citizens with our golf cart ordinance.

Also, as a reminder, golf cart renewals are due on July 1 of each year.

Murfreesboro residents,

Trash pickup that was originally supposed to be picked up Friday. May 15th will be picked up Monday, May 18th.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. The contacting service the town uses was experiencing maintenance issues.

Career Day at Hertford County Middle School is always such a fun day. The kids were great. We loved answering their questions and letting them play with all the cool stuff we use daily.

As National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week comes to a close, we want to recognize the incredible team at our 911 Center. These professionals are the true first first-responders—calm under pressure, compassionate in crisis, and dedicated to getting help where it’s needed.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to serving every caller, every time.

On Wednesday, April 1st at 4:30 pm, the Murfreesboro Police Department received a call to assist Hertford County Emergency Services on a rescue call. Upon arrival, police department personnel determined the scene needed to be secured and the case deemed further investigation.

Chief Griffith requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation. The victim in this case succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Murfreesboro Police Department, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will continue to investigate this case as a homicide. Anyone with information that could aid investigators with the prosecution and conviction of the person or persons involved are encouraged to call the Murfreesboro Police Department at 252-398-4151.

I want to look into family members’ eyes and tell them, “ We caught the person responsible for your loved one’s death”. That won’t bring happiness. But it will bring closure to a loved one that lost a family member way too soon.
It will also bring closure to the police department officers and NCSBI agents, who have spent countless hours on this case. These same agents and officers have taken an oath to protect and serve. Please respect them while they work diligently on this case.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

The Murfreesboro Police Department is proud to partner with the NC Governor's Highway Safety Program for the “Speed A Little, Lose A Lot” campaign.
Speeding may only save a few minutes—but it can cost you everything.

Increased enforcement will be taking place to keep our roads safe for everyone.

Please do your part: obey the speed limit, stay alert, and drive responsibly.
