Second Chance Dog Rescue We do not receive financial aid from the government and rely directly on donations and grants to stay running.

Second Chance is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue that serves in Murray, Kentucky, and surrounding counties. 501c3 means that we are tax-deductible, so any donations you give will be taken off your taxes. We do not have a permanent facility yet and are foster-based. This means that while the number of animals we can take in is limited to the number of fosters we can get, every animal is treated as a part of the family until their forever homes can be found. This makes the transition from shelter life to forever home much easier for both pets and humans. It allows us to get to know our animals on a personal level and be able to truly evaluate what they need in a home, which allows us to better match up a pet to a family's needs. This means, while we will take animals back if the fit just isn't right, we rarely have to because we find the perfect fit the first time. We are limited on space, but are happy to help network any animal in need of a home! We focus mainly on dogs, but will also take in cats or any animal in need. We are not set up to take in farm animals but will help where we can so please do not hesitate to contact us if there is an animal in need. We may not be able to take it to our rescue, but we will do our absolute best to find a home for it. Feel free to message us with any questions about the rescue, our animals, or how you could help us grow and save more animals. Adoptable animals can be found on our website at https://tdarnell2.wixsite.com/secondchancemurray/adopt

The importance of animal welfare , strengthening laws in every state. These people are getting is right. The few laws that are out there for authorities to enforce most of the time are not. Every single one of us should do our part to bring the lack of enforcement to the forefront to hold other accountable. There are so many out there. If you see something, say something. Don’t stop talking until enforcement is applied. It really does take a village. They depend on us .

More than 100 dogs were found in troubling conditions in Georgia, and the case ended with a sentence of 475 years in prison for the man convicted of dogfighting and animal cruelty. These innocent animals deserved protection, not a life of suffering.

In January 2025, Vincent Lemark Burrell was sentenced after being found guilty of 93 counts of dogfighting and 10 counts of animal cruelty. The case became one of the most significant animal cruelty prosecutions in the country.

Authorities found dogs living in poor conditions, with many restrained by heavy chains. The investigation led to the rescue of more than 100 dogs from the property.

This case highlights the importance of enforcing animal protection laws and holding people accountable for serious abuse. Animals cannot speak for themselves, so their protection depends on people being willing to report cruelty and take action.

Every dog deserves a life free from violence, fear, and abuse. These animals deserve safety, kindness, and the chance to live without being exploited for dogfighting.

LuLu is an 8 year old Corgi/Wirehaired terrier mix. She is a happy little ball of fun who enjoys showing off her sweet and sassy personality. She's a medium energy girly who loves to cuddle up on the couch as well as running around the yard. She loves all adults and has lived happily with older children. She currently lives with a 2.5 year old, but toddlers make her very nervous. She's not outwardly aggressive by any means, but will get defensive if cornered, especially in her kennel. She is seriously the sweetest girl and deserves a home where she doesn't have to worry about all the craziness that comes with small children. She very much wants to be the center of someone's world and she just can't be in her current home.

She has lived with lots of other dogs. Staying true to breed standard, she is a bossy girl, and does best with dog friends who will just accept that she's going to chase and bark at them. They enjoy running the fence and "defending" the yard? Even better! Unknown how she'd do with a cat. She does not do well with chickens.

She is fully vetted: spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, Heartworm negative and on monthly HW/flea/tick prevention. She does have bilateral cherry eyes. Our Vet said surgerical repair would have a high failure rate and they currently do not bother her.

She is House and crate trained.

Her ideal home is a family who have no kids under 8 years old and who love to cuddle and enjoy playing outside.

She requires a fenced yard.

She is NOT an apartment dog. Nor is she a good fit for an elderly owner. Her love includes pawing, which will tear delicate skin.

Located in Oak Ridge, TN, but we travel to West KY often and are happy to bring her to the perfect home.

Meet & Greet is required.

If you think you're the perfect home for this fabulous pudgy princess, please fill out an adoption application here: https://forms.gle/AyNwcPaWYSeFveFw5

I let her run this morning until she was ready to go back in. It’s her last off the leash until 11/13. It absolutely killed my soul to leave her. She will be hospitalized until Thursday. It’s game on now. She is hard to handle due to the characteristics of her breed. However , she is a good dog. It’s been remarkable how much she has learned since her rescue last Wednesday night. She is a smart girl , she learns fast. I have never had one easier to housetrained than her. The hardest days are yet to come , from day 10 after treatment starts to day 21 is the most dangerous. So wish us luck. Send our newest girl warm vibes and think of her often.

❤️ DONATIONS NEEDED FOR IDA RED’S VETERINARY CARE ❤️

Our sweet Ida Red needs your help! 🐾 She is preparing to begin heartworm treatment this Tuesday (10/13) , and we are asking for donations to help cover her veterinary expenses. She was also spayed and microchipped. They said she is doing well. Tomorrow, she will get her second injection. So still praying for a good outcome on round two. If all goes well, she can come home to start recovery on Thursday.

Every dollar makes a difference in giving Ida Red the care she needs and deserves. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing her story. Every bit of support, every share, and every kind word means so much! ❤️

🐾 Donations are greatly appreciated! ❤️ Please help Ida Red get through this journey to a healthier, happier life.

Thank you to everyone who loves and supports Ida Red. Together, we can help her get the care she needs! 🙏🐶
