On 10/12/2026 around 9:44 AM, the Murray Police Department responded to a residence on Main Street in response to an individual finding a what appeared to be hand gr***de. Officers responded and confirmed that the hand gr***de appeared to be real, but were unable to determine if it was inert. The Paducah Police Department Bomb Squad was requested to assist with the disposal of the hand gr***de. The hand gr***de was removed from the scene and safely rendered inert at an offsite location by the bomb squad. No criminal charges have been filed in this incident.

UPDATE:

Our work in the roadway is complete; all lanes are back open.

ORIGINAL POST:

Notice of lane restrictions on 12th Street.

Starting around 9 AM today, one of the southbound lanes on North 12th Street near Arcadia will be closed for approximately 2 hours. At one point between 9-11 AM, all northbound and southbound lanes will be shut down for appropriately 10-15 minutes. Officers will be on scene during that time to assist with diverting traffic.

Please join us in praying for the family of Trooper Phillips as they face the heartbreaking loss of their loved one, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with his Kentucky State Police family, his fellow law enforcement officers, and all those who knew and loved him.

Today, we face one of the most difficult moments an agency can endure as we announce the loss of one of our own. Trooper Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, made the ultimate sacrifice while
patrolling I-65 in Warren County. He was assigned to Post 3 Bowling Green and was a graduate of Cadet Class 103. His dedication to duty and commitment to the commonwealth will not
be forgotten.
Our hearts break for Trooper Phillips’ family, loved ones, and fellow troopers as we grieve this tremendous loss. We will carry his memory with us, honor the life he lived and the badge he wore, and stand together as an agency to support this family in the days ahead.

On 9/26/2026 around 5:26 PM, David Draper, 59 of Murray, KY, came to the police department to turn himself in for possessing child sexual abuse material after being caught by a group of individuals. Based off the early stages of the investigation, Mr. Draper was arrested on three counts of possessing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor over 12 and under 18 years of age and one count of procuring or promoting the use of a minor by electronic means. The investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges are expected.

The Murray Police Department would like to remind everyone that any person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped make our Annual Community Night such a great success! We truly appreciate all of our community members who took the time to join us.
