Re: Passing of Retired Deputy Jailer
🕊️ In Loving Memory of Deputy Jailer Rickey Kay Ferguson 🕊️
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Deputy Jailer Rickey Kay Ferguson, affectionately known by many of our staff as Mrs. Kay or Granny. She was more than a coworker to those who had the privilege of working alongside her — she was a familiar face, a caring presence, and a valued member of our Calloway County Jail family.
Mrs. Kay began her career at the Calloway County Jail in 2009, serving as a Deputy Jailer and later taking on the role of Kitchen Supervisor. Through her years of service, she contributed to the daily operations of our facility and became a familiar and cherished part of our team. She retired from her full-time position in 2019, but her time with the jail wasn’t quite over.
Her dedication to the people she worked with brought her back to the facility as a part-time Deputy Jailer, where she continued serving our team until September 2026. Last month, Mrs. Kay received a cancer diagnosis that brought an unexpected and difficult change to her life and marked the end of her time working with us.
To many, she was simply Mrs. Kay. To others, she was Granny — a name that reflected the warmth and special place she held in the hearts of those around her. Those names represented more than a nickname; they reflected the connection she built with the people she worked beside over the years.
Mrs. Kay’s years of service, dedication, and the memories she leaves behind will always be a part of the Calloway County Jail family. While her time with us has come to an end, the impact she made and the place she held in our hearts will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her during this difficult time. Please also keep our staff in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest peacefully, Mrs. Kay. Thank you for your years of service, your kindness, and the memories that will stay with us always. You will be deeply missed. 💙🕊️
