COMMUNITY WEATHER ADVISORY | OCTOBER 10–11

The Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District would like to remind residents and visitors of the potential for coastal and localized flooding this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, 2–4 inches of rain, with isolated totals up to 8 inches, are possible. A Flood Watch is in effect Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

With King Tides expected October 10–11, the combination of heavy rainfall and elevated tides may cause flooding in low-lying areas of Murrells Inlet and Garden City Beach.

Safety Reminders:

* Never drive through flooded roadways.
* Use caution near tidal creeks and low-lying areas.
* Monitor local weather updates.

Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

🚒 Training Today for Tomorrow’s Emergencies! 🚒

Today, C Shift crews from Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue (Engine 77) and Surfside Beach Fire Department (Tower 56 & Rescue 56) teamed up for high-impact aerial operations training involving a fly standpipe.

During NFPA 1410 multi-company drills:

Engine 77 established a reliable water supply.

Tower 56 performed a reverse lay to position their apparatus, laddered the structure, and deployed a handline to simulate fighting a fire on the roof.

Joint exercises like this sharpen our skills, strengthen inter-department communication, and ensure seamless teamwork when our communities need us most. Great work by all crews today! 👏🔥

Ten recruits completed the 24-week training program, demonstrating perseverance, discipline, and commitment to service. The future of our department is stronger because of them.

Special recognition goes to:
Valedictorian: Louis McGowan
Physical Fitness Award: Chase Clark
Leadership Award: Gabriella Shea

This class joins us during a particularly meaningful year as we mark 60 years of service to our community. What a fitting way to honor our past while investing in our future.

Congratulations, Class Genesis—you’ve set the bar and started a legacy.

Surf Rescue crews are on patrol today!

If you see us out on the beach, give us a wave and say hello. Our crews are monitoring conditions, assisting beachgoers, and helping to keep our beaches safe.

Beach Safety Tip: Before getting in the water, take a moment to identify a landmark directly behind you. Ocean currents can move swimmers down the beach faster than most people realize, especially children. Have a safe day and enjoy the beach!
