Muscatine Firefighters — past and present — joined city staff and community members early Monday morning to honor Firefighter Michael Kruse, the only active‑duty loss in Muscatine Fire Department history.

A moment of silence and a wreath‑laying ceremony were held at the Muscatine Firefighters Memorial to mark the 24th anniversary of the end of his watch, September 14, 2002.

We remember his service, his sacrifice, and the lasting impact he made on the Muscatine community.

Today, the Muscatine Fire Department solemnly remembers the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. We honor the lives lost, the bravery of the first responders, and the resilience of our nation on that tragic day.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the 9/11 Stair Climb in remembrance of the fallen. Special thanks to Muscatine High School for the use of the football stadium, Musco Lighting for their support, the Muscatine Police Department, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, members of surrounding volunteer fire departments, and all the community members who joined in. Your dedication and presence helped make this tribute meaningful.

Together, we climbed not only in memory of those we lost but to remind ourselves of the strength and unity that carries us forward. 🇺🇸
