Today, members of the Muskegon County Hazardous Materials Response Team participated in the Region 6 Hazmat Exercise at the CSX rail yard in Grand Rapids.
CSX put on an excellent, hands-on training exercise that challenged our team and provided valuable opportunities to sharpen our skills as Hazmat Technicians. Training in realistic environments with complex rail-related scenarios is critical to maintaining our readiness for hazardous materials incidents throughout our region.
We were proud to train alongside some outstanding agencies and partners including Grand Rapids Fire Department Hazmat, Tri-Com Hazmat, Ottawa County Hazmat, 51st Civil Support Team (CST), Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE)-Incident Management, and the Michigan State Police (MSP)-Emergency Management.
Exercises like this reinforce the importance of regional cooperation, interoperability, and continued training. When a major hazardous materials incident occurs, it takes highly trained teams working together to protect our communities.
A big thank you to GRFD for hosting and CSX for providing an outstanding training opportunity, and to all of our regional partners for their professionalism and commitment to hazardous materials response.
