This is not the result we hoped for tonight, but I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran and grateful to everyone who believed in it. I want to thank my husband for his love and support.
I want to congratulate Rep. Joanne Shofner, and wish her well. Representing the people of East Texas is a serious responsibility, and I hope she will listen to and work for everyone who calls this community home.
Over the course of this campaign, we heard from parents worried about their public schools, families trying to keep up with housing and everyday costs, people struggling to find or afford healthcare, and communities that want reliable infrastructure, good jobs, and a fair shot for their kids.
I am proud that we gave those Texans a voice in this race and made sure the issues they care about could not be ignored.
To every person who knocked a door in the Texas heat, made a call, put out a sign, chipped in, talked to a neighbor, or trusted me with their vote: thank you. I will never take that support for granted.
I got into this race because I care deeply about district 11 and the people who live here. An election result does not change that.
Tonight, we may not have gotten the outcome we wanted, but I leave this campaign even more convinced that showing up, listening to people, and fighting for our community matters.
This campaign ends tonight, but our commitment to district 11 does not. The Democratic Party looks forward to working with community members and leaders in helping to improve the lives of East Texans. Thank you!
