🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT TODAY — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16

The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Red Flag Warning for Nacogdoches County from 10:00 AM today until 1:00 AM Saturday, October 17. A Wind Advisory is also in effect through early Saturday morning.

A strong cold front is bringing gusty north winds and much drier air into East Texas, creating conditions that could allow wildfires to start and spread rapidly.

🌬️ What to Expect:

* North winds of 10–20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.
* Relative humidity dropping to approximately 25–35%.
* Increased potential for rapid wildfire spread.

🔥 Please Help Prevent Wildfires:

* Avoid outdoor burning, including brush piles and campfires.
* Avoid activities that could create sparks near dry vegetation.
* Do not park vehicles on dry grass.
* Properly dispose of ci******es and other smoking materials.

A Red Flag Warning means weather conditions are favorable for fires to spread quickly if one starts.

Although winds are expected to decrease over the weekend, dry conditions will continue, and fire danger may remain elevated.

Please use extra caution outdoors and help protect our community.

đźš’ We also want to thank the dedicated men and women of our volunteer fire departments throughout Nacogdoches County. These volunteers give their time to protect our communities and stand ready to respond when needed. We appreciate their continued dedication and service, especially during periods of increased fire danger.

One of the best ways to show our appreciation is to do our part to prevent fires before they start.

🔥⚠️ FIRE WEATHER WATCH – INCREASED WILDFIRE DANGER FRIDAY & SATURDAY ⚠️🔥

Nacogdoches County | October 15–17, 2026

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Nacogdoches County from Friday morning through late Friday night.

A strong cold front moving through East Texas will bring gusty north winds and rapidly decreasing humidity. Combined with dry vegetation, these conditions will increase the potential for wildfires to start and spread rapidly.

🌬️ Friday, October 16 – Greatest Concern

* North winds of 10–20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.
* Relative humidity dropping to approximately 25–40% across the region.
* Increased potential for fires to ignite and spread quickly.

🍂 Saturday, October 17 – Continued Fire Danger

* Cooler temperatures, but north winds of 10–15 mph are expected.
* Texas A&M Forest Service forecasts indicate elevated fire danger will continue across portions of East Texas.
* Residents should continue taking precautions even after the Fire Weather Watch expires.

đźš« HELP PREVENT WILDFIRES:

âś… Avoid outdoor burning, particularly Friday and Saturday.
âś… Postpone welding, mowing, and other activities that could create sparks.
âś… Keep vehicles and equipment off dry grass.
âś… Properly extinguish and dispose of ci******es.
âś… Monitor weather conditions, fire restrictions, and additional warnings.

⚠️ What is a Fire Weather Watch?

A Fire Weather Watch means critical fire weather conditions are possible.

Remember: Cooler temperatures do not necessarily mean lower wildfire danger. Strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation can create conditions where fires spread rapidly.

Please use extra caution Friday and throughout the weekend to help protect our community.

Stay Aware. Stay Prepared. Stay Informed.
