As we continue fire 🔥 prevention week we wanted to show you some lithium batteries 🔋 that were involved in a fire or that caused a fire. Lithium batteries are great, however damaged 🪫batteries can go into something called thermal runaway. This is a chain reaction that occurs in the batteries and is difficult to stop. When this happens, the batteries can react violently with sparks ⚡️ and eventually flame 🔥 shooting out of them. Whatever they are around becomes involved in fire very fast. Where are these batteries you might ask? Everywhere. Phones, ☎️ cars, 🚗 toys, 🧸 smoke detectors and just about anything else you can imagine. Be cautious and watch out for the signs of a failing battery. Check out the pictures of several batteries that failed and a remote controlled toy where you might find them. If you want to learn more be sure to stop by our Open House this Thursday night at our Fire Station 16. 🚒🧯

As the second day of Fire Prevention Week comes to an end, have you thought about your cell phone? Where do you charge it? Do you use the correct charger? Do you un plug it when it’s charged? These are some things to think about to stay safe. A phone or other device that won’t charge all the way to 💯%, or that gets hot when you charge it could be a sign of a failing lithium battery. Stay safe. Use the proper charger. Unplug your phone when it’s fully charged. Be sure to charge it on a hard surface. If it’s gets hot it may be time to check your charger or have the battery checked. Be on the lookout for more tips this week as Fire Prevention Week continues. And don’t forget our Open House this Thursday beginning at 5:00 pm.

🚒 Help Your Renters — and Emergency Responders — Find Your Home Faster! 🚒
In our beach community, many homes are used as vacation rentals. When guests need help, every second counts. A clearly visible reflective address sign can help firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, delivery drivers, and renters quickly locate your property—day or night.
Our Fire Department's Address

Sign Program makes it easy:
✅ Reflective Address Sign Only — $30
✅ Reflective Address Sign with 4x4 Post — $40

For customers purchasing the post option, members of the Fire Department will install the sign at your property.
Whether you own a year-round residence or a rental home, a visible address can make a big difference during an emergency.
You can purchase a sign on our town website. If you have any questions, you can call the Fire Department.
